I was looking for a place to meet friends in Oxfordshire for lunch on a Sunday, which was an easy location to find as we each needed to travel separately. Timing was important so, in a phone call, I explained our needs. The arrangements could not have worked better after discussions with the host who took our booking and made everything work well for us on the day.p
The menu and drink choices were good and the food itself excellent, along with the cheerful service we received.
The location and ambience is also very pleasant indeed and while I'm not sure I'll be in the area again any time soon, if I happen to be I would definitely return.

Desserts on kids menu - ice cream only. No dairy free alternatives offered, not even some fruit when asked.
Apart from that, food and service is good.

Had the chicken liver pate on toast as a starter. Honestly my taste buds thought they'd died and gone to heaven. It was beautiful. Chose the pork belly for main course. Amazing

Inside the pub restaurant it was done very well, the outside terrace looked tired and not bothered about. The garden and pond, amazing. We just stopped for a coffee while in the area.

Flies! Every time I eat here we are bothered by numerous flies. It?s unpleasant when they are landing on your food and you are constantly batting them away from you.
Food was amazing. We tried the tasting menu but felt the service was slow and in between servings the gap was too long, you felt like you had been forgotten about and 3 courses before the end we just wanted to leave.

I saw that this is in the Michelin guide so we thought we?d give it a try. A lovely looking place. When we arrived there was a lady at reception who showed us to our table. There was only 6 other people in the restaurant over 2 other tables so not busy for a Saturday afternoon. We waited about 10mins before I went to the bar and asked politely if we could have some service. The response from another lady who was behind the bar was ?I?ve been getting other drinks.? She came to the table and took our order. After another 10mins we received our drinks and we also gave our food order. Another lady came to the table with an amuse bouch which she called an aperitif. When the food arrived at the table there was zero theatre to it, It was just placed in front of us which was a discredit to the chef because the food was amazing. The menu description was good but that felt ages ago to reiterating what we?re eating, where it?s from etc is an expectation for a place that?s in the Michelin guide. There were loads of flies which they need to get on top of and definitely made it feel as if the restaurant was not entirely clean. Toilets were not completely clean either-yellow stained toilet seat in the men?s! An easy fix.. Staff set up was strange. One young girl was very smiley and polite. Others not so, almost surly and abrupt. One of the staff members had a baby in the bar and as the restaurant was not busy it was confusing as to why the service was so poor. Not obvious who was in charge - no one ?owning? our experience. Timings were fine (once we got served) but the service level absolutely did not match the price point nor the food quality. To summise ? Food was amazing, service very poor, restaurant needs a good clean. Easy to sort if they want customers to return. With Clarkson?s The Farmers Dog only 30mins away and taking hundreds of bookings a day, people are prepared to spend so please make changes so you can compete.

We've just had a family birthday lunch and everyone was delighted with the excellent food. When every course - starter, main and dessert - tastes really good, you know you are onto a winner.
Many 'good' gastropubs offer similar-sounding dishes at similar prices. But 'The Duck' is well beyond them in that the quality of the ingredients and the way they had been assembled or combined was top rate. The meat of the belly pork had superb depth of flavour as did the confit duck. The trout starter was also a delicious combination of flavours. The clear effort that is taken to source the ingredients - most of it locally - very obviously pays off. The staff were unvariably helpful and friendly.
This pub is a total treat and well worth heading for if you want a superb meal in a really good atmosphere.
