We recently hosted our engagement party at this pub, and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish. My fiancé and I wanted a calm, easy-going, and inviting atmosphere for the day, and that?s exactly what we got ? and so much more. The staff were genuinely incredible ? attentive, friendly, and so on top of everything. A true 10/10.
Something that really sells a place for me is the atmosphere and the service, and both were absolutely faultless. The space was warm, welcoming, and had that ideal mix of relaxed and celebratory. It created the perfect backdrop for such a special moment in our lives.
All of our guests commented on how lovely the setting was, how smooth everything ran, and how relaxed they felt throughout the event. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy, and it truly showed. We were able to enjoy the day fully without a single worry ? just laughter, love, and good vibes all around.
If you?re thinking of hosting a special occasion here ? do it. We couldn?t have asked for a better place or better people to help us celebrate. Thank you again for making our engagement party so unforgettable!

Chose The Highwayman for our Wedding Anniversary lunch and were not disappointed. Extremely welcoming, excellent choice from the menus, and the most pleasant atmosphere. Cannot recommend it highly enough. We will be back !

We visited whilst on holiday on recommendation and from the moment we walked in, the staff were extremely polite friendly. The wine list is exceptional and the food divine. Highly recommended

I would like say a big thank you to all the staff at The Highwayman Inn in Checkendon especially to the young waitress that served us for making my mothers 90th birthday so very special, and to all the staff for bringing out her birthday desert and singing happy birthday to her that really made her day, thank you so much to you all and to Poppy Jane for arranging it, it meant the world to my mum xx ? definitely 5 star ?? rating xx

We are very much regulars at the Highwayman, where I have never had a bad meal. I did want to thank Lou and her team in particular however for the outstanding experience last Sunday when they looked after my wife?s birthday celebration. We took the middle room of the pub for a party of 24 people and everything - the food, ambience, service - was superb. All the guests commented on the high quality of the food. Top marks Lou and we will see you soon.

Awesome food, great staff, great wines, great beers! Highly recommended. Sat on the terrace, had fantastic prawns then Steak. Delicious. Our server was superb. Well done Highwayman!

Excellent food, charming service by Holly. We were a large family party of 13 and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, finding us a table inside as it looked as if it would rain. The food all came out quickly and the roast dinners were delicious!
