The best grocery store to get cheaper and affordable items
January 2024 by Andrew Scott
I'm a convert. Aldi quality is good, although the choice is limited, the prices are low. The compromise on choice never seems to impact our ability to prepare wonderful meals. The benefit of lower costs is felt everytime we review our budget and spending.Visited again today, Aldi remains my default choice for groceries. After yet another visit I remain happy with Aldi, I like the ease of knowing the store layout, and the fact that it's pretty much the same at all stores.

Great store, always near and tidy most of the time has proved lakes in most things. (Though I've found a few missing)The staff have always been really friendly (especially a chap on the tills, with think white has and goaty beard, who's always laughing and joking, especially with the young children) and plentiful.Better quality than Lidl, though the variety is nearly identical.

Long queues at the checkouts and lots of litter just outside the store.

Best place to shop. You'll love this one!

One of the smaller stores, has all the essentials. Getting out the car park can be a pain at busy times. .

Popped in here for a few things the other day, quite handy, decent food and always good value for money. The 1 star review is the lasting impression I was given following the unbelievably rude and discourteous service by the old guy on the checkout with the pointy white beard. From start to finish he didn't even acknowledge me, look up, or say hello. He was too busy chattering loudly on his headset to even bother. Reading the reviews it seems I'm not the only one to have experienced this so who knows how many people are being put off. Some lessons on customer service required...

Standard example of the brand.A little in need of an upgrade as it does not have doors on its chillers.

I will never step foot in that store again. I queued up and the guy on the till was talking nonstop on his earpiece the whole time. He didn?t acknowledge or look at me not even a please or thank you nothing. I may as well have been invisible. Bloody rude

The shop is not as competitive now as it used to be, but you can still get some good deals from the 'special buys' section. Meat are usually 'good' compared to Tesco & Sainsburys where I had some disappointingly tough fresh meats (especially beef). Fruit & vegs are OK in terms of freshness but lacks variety. The shop can be quite disorganised and hazardous as empty boxes and products are lying around the shop floor.

Aldi in Didcot have a good car park which is free for up to 90 minutes. A good selection of produce. I prefer Lidl but there's none in Didcot, so it was fine.

It's good but not brilliant - one needs to be discreet in what one buys. Some items have an excellent "price to performance" ratio but others are not. A comment which is more applicable to Aldi, in general, is that I have written to them in the past, appealing to them to match other supermarkets in use of preservatives/ artificial ingredients. Houmous range is a good example. It's disconcerting given the alarming research about "processed foods". I hope this review will somehow help the well being of many with less deep pockets ?. Reviewed on 5 Mar'23. Kept it unchanged.Following added on 16 July 2023:I would urge an Aldi senior manager to visit our local store (although I suspect the problem exists at other branches too) and check, for themselves, the missing price labels from the shelves as well as incorrectly placed items, I mean in the wrong place. Some of it is down to the careless shoppers but, here, I am not referring to that type of mix up.
