This place is quite hit and miss for me. Lovely and slightly quirky place with beautiful outside garden located in on a quaint street. Service is okay, not as friendly as you often get out in the countryside. We were seated in a saloon room at first and were asked to order drinks- these unfortunately weren?t very good (champagne and red wine) and after about 20minutes we got seated in the main restaurant for our food. Sadly it took a very long time until we received our first dish, even the complimentary (and admittedly very delicious) pastry to start with took at least 15minutes to come. The garlic soup was very hearty and tasted good, the crab tartlet was beautifully presented and very elegant in flavor. The truffle gnocchi were very good, however the beef roast was about 40% pure fat and the sides were okay, but just that. Yorkshire pudding wasn?t very good unfortunately. Small portions also considering the pretty hefty price tags (roast was 36£)? our rhubarb soufflé dessert was a nice and unique way to end the meal, but again just overpriced at 16£. All in all we enjoyed the experience here but we drove out 1 1/2hrs just for this and are not sure we?d do it again. If you live close you may want to give this a try, but I do feel like there may be even better options at this price range (or actually, even below that)?

Sunday roast was fantastic. Herefordshire beef so tender. Good selection of wines. Good portion sizes. Very satisfied. I enjoying the drink by the fire place and placing the order then being taken to the table just before the food was ready as allowed a relaxing start to the dining.

The chef here creates dishes of great subtlety... clever and delicious.Excellent service from people who know what they are doing.At £30 for the lunch menu, it is also a bargain.A noisy male table near us didn't appear to know that they were in a great restaurant!

The Napier, set in the delightful Chiltern countryside, has gone through something of a renaissance with the arrival of a remarkably talented chef, Andy Lewis. His dishes are enticingly presented with an abundance of taste and textures. Highly imaginative in the way he uses the seasonality of ingredients to enhance his recipes. And with consummate skill, he selects those sympathetic to the main ingredient rather than overwhelm it with competing flavours. Consistency is another of his virtues and a Michelin star surely beckons. The relaxed and welcoming environment Julia and her team provide will ensure we will return time and time again. Bryan K

We went to selebrate our friend's birthday. Everything was excellent, food was tasty, seviss was very good. Definitely, we will be back!!!

Absolutely loved the day we spent here! A perfect place for a get together, so cosy and outstanding food. The staff and manager were so efficient and willing and we felt really welcome. The sculptures in the garden were a great surprise as well, loved taking a frosty stroll around the garden and fields and seeing the sights.

We have been fans of this excellent restaurant for decades mainly having quiet lunches with friends but last night was a whole new experience. Namely as guest at a silver wedding party. Julie and her team were at their brilliant best with superb food and service for 70 of us. It could not have been better organised by our hosts or the restaurant.

Traditional English pub. Impressive wine list. You could see they were very busy but we were still well taken care of. Service was very friendly. As for the food it was exceptional! Beautiful garden. We hope to return in the near future.

Disappointing from very start. We were looking forward to a special lunch but staff meet n greet and attentiveness was indifferent. Food was luke warm with very small portions of accompanying sides - even when told staff were ?slightly? sorry. Wine was not delivered to the table despite 3 reminders. Generally they were over inflated and overated .

Went here last night for my birthday meal, the bar is beautiful, welcoming log fire, extensive wine list. Lovely starter of wild mushroom tartlet and delicious breads. I chose Fish of the day which was Monkfish. My partner had venison. Unfortunately as I cut into my monkfish it felt tough, and apart from a tiny bit at the end it was completely raw and inedible. The owner was apologetic and offered me a new meal which was a different choice and was lovely. But my partner had finished his food when mine arrived and the evening was spoiled. How can a professional kitchen serve raw food. Sadly I have lost trust and will not be returning here.
