Been in before to the H&J when i had some food about 6 months ago however i was certainly shocked to see the management had changed ,(the last people were very welcoming. ) i was let down by the new manager/s the lady behind the bar said she was the manger however there was no atmosphere and she was wasn?t very welcoming from a publicans point of view it didn?t seem very professional how she spoke to someone else. anyway. Maybe she was having an off day but i didn?t stay long i only had half of my drink and left. When i had popped in previously there was another lady on who?s name i believe is Enya she always asked how i was doing and was a very sweet girl shame shes not there anymore for whatever reason but sad to say i wont be back anytime soon I?m afraid

It's been a while since I left any reviews on local pubs, so here we go. It's seems after a long while of not quite getting it right for the village. The Horse & Jockey is absolutely nailing what the people want. There is always a lovely atmosphere in there, the staff are wonderful and the landlady delivers time after time, some of the best nights out the village has needed in a long time. They've started serving food, which seems to be going down well with the customers There is plenty of really great live music nights scattered throughout each month, starting each month with an open mic on the 1st Wednesday of the month, followed by covers band and original music to cover every taste. There has been a joyous buzz around the village and surrounding area about the Jockey being back to how it was in its heyday. Well done to everyone involved in bringing back the last village pub to a place for socialising, smiles, a quick pint after work on a Friday!!!???

Apparently dog friendly but lad behind the bar wasn?t keen that we brought our two spaniels on leads inside. Didn?t try the food as they only had basket meals for £9.50 each.

Been here a couple of times before. Friendly staff and nice and quiet for a motorhome stop over. Will come again whenever I get the chance

Management of the pub has now changed so check before visiting if you plan to have food. They plan to be back to full service in mid June 2025.

Fab Sunday roast - honestly one of the best pub roasts I've ever had! Great service and lovely pub.

Worst Sunday Roast I?ve Ever Had!
Extremely disappointed with our first experience at The Horse And Jockey. Bad from start to finish sadly. Only 3 tables in at the time including ourselves. Staff got our drinks order wrong, table next to us ordered their mains after us but were served theirs first, ours arrived 20 minutes later!
We were told the options for food were either beef, pork, or nut roast. When checking if there were any other options we were told no - later on we saw another table being served a large pizza and chips to share!
Our mains were also wrong, 2 roasts arrived with small portions of beef and pork when they were meant to be just beef, so we had to wait for extra beef to be added to replace the pork.
Beef was dry, parsnips were completely shrivelled and tiny, carrots were barely even carrots - more like soggy peelings! Yorkshire pudding was burnt, gravy was thin and watery, the picture speaks for itself!
Went to the bar to pay at the end and they charged us the wrong tables bill by mistake, luckily we noticed!
Overall an extremely underwhelming and disappointing experience, will not be returning.

We had a roast dinner the food was terrible, food was very bland , Yorkshire puddings massively under cooked and doughy. Not much option for veg (soggy cabage and carrots) and gammon very thin. Gravy very watery.
No stuffing or cauliflower cheese

Lovely pub with easy parking and a nice atmosphere. Staff friendly. Food fine, average rather than excellent, standard pub food I'd say. There's a lot to like here with plenty of room and pleasing on the eye too, in an old-fashioned way.

Went for a late Sunday afternoon lunch (arrived at 15:10) quickly informed that lunch finishes at 16:00 so options were limited.
Ordered the Sunday lunch as normal menu is suspended during that time.
Although we appreciated that it was coming close towards kitchen close the dinner was poor at best. Roast potatoes over done. Parsnips beyond caramelised. Beef was dry. Yorkshire pudding (if could call it that as Aunt Bessie's tidgie puds were bigger) was small.
Upside was the horseradish sauce as that tasted fine and was plenty of it.
Drinks were a good price considering.
Overall for £15ph for a Sunday dinner it wasn't worth it. Left both disappointed and hungry.
Not sure what the dress code was for serving staff as most were wearing the fosters t shirts but our server had some very unique choice of leggings but certainly didn't give the professional attire we'd have expected.
Overall a disappointing experience and won't be recommending, despite a significant amount of staff on duty (considering there were only 5 customers in the establishment) bathroom in gents needed attention.
