I was in and around Abingdon over a day and Java gave me such a good impression in the morning that it was where I gravitated back to during the whole day. Great coffee, amazing pastries and I mean amazing. Definitely recommend.

We had one of the worst experiences we?ve ever had at a cafe. My family and I visited Java Cafe and spent over £80 on food and drinks, choosing to sit outside. Unfortunately, the outdoor seating area was swarming with bees, making it impossible to eat comfortably. Strangely, the bee problem seemed to be isolated to this cafe ? other nearby places didn?t have this issue.
We politely asked for takeaway boxes so we could safely take our food away, and we were more than happy to pay extra for the packaging. Considering how much we had already spent, it wasn?t about money ? we simply wanted to enjoy our food safely.
Instead of helping, the staff ? including who we believe to be the manager or owner ? became hostile. She accused us of taking things without paying, spoke rudely to my sister, and when I calmly confronted her about how unnecessary and disrespectful her attitude was, she denied everything and said, ?I don?t have time for this.?
The entire atmosphere turned cold. No one offered help, an apology, or any attempt to de-escalate the situation. We left feeling disrespected, humiliated, and completely let down by how we were treated ? especially after supporting a local independent business with such a large order.
This wasn?t about bees or boxes ? it was about basic respect and customer service, which were both sorely lacking. We won?t be returning, and I would urge others to think twice before visiting.

£7 for a potato and onion pastry. You?d think it would at least be nice but it was flavourless and dry. Prices are not advertised anywhere

Asked for a teacake, was told they didn?t have any but I should try the apple pastry. Paid and sat down. Thought about it. Went back to check I hadn?t accidentally been overcharged but no, turns out this standard little tart cost £7 and a regular coffee just shy of £5. Don?t love leaving neggy reviews but that does seem to take the pith. Staff unphased. ?Next!?

Went in yesterday because the shop looked nice from the outside and I?d always rather go for a more independent spot opposed to Costa across the road. Saw that the milkshakes were £6 each and just assumed for that price they?d be really good quality? powdered ice cream and a scoop of powdered hot chocolate for flavouring just isn?t it. We then got 2 pastries and a small portion of Baclava and somehow this came to £32, I couldn?t believe it. No wonder they don?t have the prices on any of the food at the front. London prices but with low quality ingredients is a terrible combo. I had to double check if the price was correct and sadly it was. We will not be going back.

Recently visited this place and we had burger and chips from outside and we took Milkshake from this place, while we were eating at the table owners comes out of nowhere and starts shouting that you can?t have outside food at my table and blah blah, literally everyone was looking at us and it was really humiliating. She could?ve told us in soft tone but chose to yell. As a visitor didn?t expect that and definitely never going back to this place.

Main woman that runs it is very rude and sassy. Has bad attitude with customers and her own staff, especially when they get multiple orders. They own Ma Cherie next door as well so avoid that.
She will always charge you larger sizes without asking, then sassy when you ask to change a flat white to a smaller size. (Ordered flat white but was given two large lattes, and charged for large as well).
Staff are friendly but clearly fed up with her.

As always they do have great food. But experience of coffee was not great. I ordered an iced latte, first time it arrived was a warm latte with oat milk. Then second one came was an iced latte with oak milk. I didn?t drink the coffee and decided not to take it back.
Generally a great place to eat and have a coffee. But didn?t enjoy experience getting coffee wrong and in end went to Missing Bean.

After going to Java a few times and really enjoying it (especially the bacon rolls) , I was shocked by the way we were spoken to by, I'm guessing the owner. She was extremely rude and blunt to me and my family! I work in hospitality myself and i wouldn't dream of speaking of to a paying customer they way she did.
Also my sausage roll's pastry was warm and the sausage inside was freezing... not good!
After having a lovely times there in the past, Unfortunately we will not be returning again.

It was our first visit to Java at the weekend. We ordered two oat milk cappuccinos and two vegan sausage rolls to take out: £19.68! The coffee was nice, but the sausage rolls were really very average for that price. We decided to try somewhere different to our normal choice of cafe in Abingdon, but at those prices I think we?ll stick to what we know in future.
