Lovely fresh room. No lift though. Room lacked clothes hooks in bathroom, shelf for accessories in bathroom, telephone, drinks coasters to protect polished surfaces. Not a complaint for short stay, just an observation, which I'm sure will be remedied promptly. Breakfast table service good. Staff obliging and friendly.
Rooms: As above
Food and drinks: Well presented, reasonably priced. Bar service lacked refinement (serviettes etc) but it was busy and still enjoyable. Staff friendly and obliging.
Noteworthy details: If new to the area, make sure you've got a good working SatNav, and be aware of one way systems. Register car in advance to ensure space nearby.

We went for a wedding reception, staff are friendly, but service was slowing the main bar! The buffet was lovely, with a mix of hot and cold food.

This hotel is located in the centre of town. I wasn't staying there but had an evening meal in their oaks restaurant. The soup of the day which was tomato & basil was the best I have ever had & absolutely delicious. The mushroom, chicken& bacon pie was packed with chicken & equally delicious. Served with georgous veg & thick cut chips I thoroughly enjoyed this & was very impressed. All of the staff were extremely friendly & attentive. It was a very pleasant experience. I can highly recommend.

Stayed here overnight for my son?s stag weekend. The way they organised our stay (party of 12!), including our evening meal was absolutely fantastic. Really friendly, well organised, great food and a lovely place to stay. Would definitely highly recommend

Called in for a snack and a pint. Bog standard corporate beer and a steak sandwich that was inedible on the whole. Large lumps of fat and gristle on a soggy piece of bread that had seen better days, the only moisture was where the sauce had soaked into the bread. The couple of bits of meat that weren't too tough to chew were undercooked. £12. Side order of halloumi fries, dry as old sticks. I can see why they ask you to pay before you get the food. Won't be back.

Fantastic hotel, full of 509 years of character. Lovely place, with some quirky touches. ( 8 classic clocks in the dining room, all set slightly different times).Due to the age of the building expect some uneven floors in the bedrooms. If this is a problem ask for rooms in the new part. The bed was so comfortable.Food and beer are great.

Superb food, well priced if you order before 6.30pm. I liked the historic feel to the restaurant and the service was excellent. The wine was delicious too!We didn't stay - we only dined there as we live nearby.Nearby activities: In the town itself:The Norman Minster cathedralParks (with children's play equipment)CafesShopsA walk along an old disused railway lineThe Archbishop's Palace GardensSaturday (and a smaller Thursday ) marketThe 'birthplace' of the Bramley AppleWalkability: Everywhere is Southwell is accessible on foot.

I stayed two nights here and had a very comfortable room and enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning. The only thing to beware of is the lane leading to the car park which is full of enormous potholes, otherthan that I can highly recommend this hotel, and
