Popped in for a quick drink and the rugby. Great little place and was pleased with the 0.0 options and the pub in general.
Lovely indoor seating

I came here today with my partner for a couple of latte's. We used to come in here around Christmas time and the latte's were affordable. Today, I was charged £8.50 for 2 small latte's, can't have been more than 200ml of milk in each cup. I could have bought 16 pints of milk instead of having a mere 200ml. Greed is everywhere these days. Gotta vote with your feet folks. That's the last time I'm paying over the odds for a small drink. Talk about profiteering.

My old watering hole from many years ago. It's changed a lot since then probably for the better ! It's a lovely pub with nice staff.

????? 5/5 ? A Proper Pub with Heart, Soul, and the Godliest Fish & Chips I?ve Ever Had
I?m honestly still glowing from my visit to The Admiral Rodney in Southwell. From the moment I stepped in, I felt completely at ease ? the whole place hums with warmth, friendliness, and that effortless, down-to-earth charm you only find in a proper British pub that knows who it is and does it brilliantly.
Let me get straight to it: the fish and chips were nothing short of divine. The batter was crisp without being greasy, the fish inside was beautifully flaky and fresh, and the chips were hot, golden, and soul-soothing. I?m not exaggerating when I say it was the godliest fish and chips I?ve ever eaten. I?d go back for that alone ? happily.
Then came the cheesecake, and wow. It was the kind of dessert that makes you go quiet for a minute. Creamy, smooth, perfectly sweet ? but what really got me was the biscuit base. It was buttery, rich, and had the perfect crunch. Honestly, it could win awards. I?m still thinking about it.
The staff were amazing ? genuinely lovely people who made me feel like I was more than just another customer. They were friendly, attentive, always smiling, and just really decent. You can tell they care, not just about the service but about creating a good atmosphere. They even made a fuss over the dog, bringing water and treats ? it?s a proper dog-friendly pub, not just one that allows dogs but welcomes them.
The vibe was exactly what I needed. Relaxed, no stress, no pretence. Just a cozy, comfortable space where the conversation flows, the music is at just the right volume, and the energy is warm and familiar. It?s the kind of place you could settle into for hours without even realising it.
There?s something special about The Admiral Rodney ? it?s not just the food (though that alone is worth raving about), it?s the feeling you get when you?re there. It?s comforting. Joyful. A little sanctuary of good vibes, great food, and kind people.
I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit.

Good food and a reasonable selection of beers. Interesting pub with an old well in the middle of it.

Food awful. Ordered sausage and mash. Smallest portion of mash I have ever seen. Three overcooked sausages on one scoop of cold mash, partially cooked frozen peas and salty instant gravy. Out of first choice which was steak and ale pie . Husband's veggie burger was cold on a burnt and I mean black bun. Wine glass dirty. My husband doesn't like to make a fuss but lit really was abysmal food. They really need to up their game.

We were in town visiting the exhibition at the minster and popped in afterwards for some lunch. Everywhere around seemed busy but we managed to find a table in the pub and the food didn't take too long to arrive which was a pleasant surprise. Staff were friendly. Shame the hot drinks machine was out of order as we needed to warm up on a cold day and the doors were open on the pub so it wasn't overly warm. Food was lovely and hot anyway and reasonably priced for the area, our party enjoyed burgers, scampi and the full English.
