I have been shopping at the Schuh store on Nottingham Clumber Street for a few years and signed up for the rewards card two years ago. This is my first review. The store had a sale on, so I decided to take a look. I was looking for sandals with low heels and was fortunate to find some on sale. I asked one of the staff members to bring me two pairs of the sandals I had chosen. She informed me that she would get me two new pairs from the back in my size.
I waited patiently and purchased the sandals. However, before leaving the store, I instinctively checked them, and to my dismay, I discovered that one pair was fine, but the other included a sandal that was clearly a display item. It was dirty and scruffy. If I had been informed by the sales associate about the condition of the sandals, I could have made a decision on whether to take them or not. I was annoyed that the sales associate did not inform me about the condition of the sandals, as this information would have allowed me to make an informed choice.
When I explained the situation to the manager, she told me that the sales assistant had done the correct thing by not informing me of the condition of the sandals and that it was Schuh's policy. I was flabbergasted by her response. I have never encountered such an unprofessional reaction in all my years of shopping and working in retail as both a manager and staff member. It is unacceptable to tell a customer that they have no choice in what they are purchasing. I was always taught that if an item is the last pair on display, the customer has the right to decide whether to buy it or not.
I captured an image of the sandal and returned it to the manager.
Another staff member mentioned that the sandals were available online. Upon expressing my interest in this option, the manager informed me that Schuh could send me a worn, dirty pair again. At that point, I simply ignored her because I realised her attitude was unhelpful.
I understand that staff support is important, but this situation was not an appropriate way to do so. Schuh, as a company, needs to improve its screening of staff and management. They require more experienced and professional employees.
While the store has been newly refurbished, I recommend investing this money in acquiring more qualified management.

Schuh... our casual visit turned into a great shopping experience. We were actually looking for some stilletoes and bang on, we found what we wanted.
It's been a lovely experience here. The staff was very courteous and helped us to chose the right size. It was a lovely shopping experience on a special day.
Definately a name on our visit again list.
