I have been to Life Spring Church a few times for something to eat and drink and found staff friendly.
But I visited on Friday 6th June and my experience was not good.
I came down to visit the food bank as I am struggling at the moment and on universal credits. I was working but got finished in April this year due to capability and not being able to do my job anymore because of bulging discs in my back.
I have been getting advice from Citizens advice and they told me about the food bank at Life Spring Church and said that I didn't need to be referred and I could just pop in.
I came down at 11am and the side door was closed were people normally go into the food bank. I went inside to the cafe area and asked a member of staff if the food bank was open and she said they have just closed it as not enough staff to run it.
I said okay and replied that I was told by citizens advice that it was open today from 11 till 1pm. She then replied that I need to be referred by citizens advice when i was told i could just walk in with it being church led.
I then asked if I could refer myself on there website and she said I have no idea quite sharply. I said okay and I asked for a latte and went and sat in the conservatory and had it.
While I was in there the staff member went talking to 2 ladies in there about what I had been discussing with her.
I thought this was very rude to do this and I felt bad enough coming in and asking about the foodbank without being belittled by a member of staff then looked at by one of the women leaving the cafe like I was a piece of crap on her shoe.
I thought churches are supposed to welcome everyone not just certain people.
I will not be visiting there again and giving them my custom.
