We visited here on our way home from Belton House and it did not disappoint! From the minute we walked in we felt welcomed, the staff were friendly and very attentive.
The pub is really well kept, has a lovely atmosphere and we loved that they had a selection of board games for you to play in the bar area. We sat in the bar area to eat but didn't feel like we were forgotten about and still received great service.
We both ordered the roast beef dinner with a side of cauliflower cheese. Our food came out quickly and it was lovely and hot!
The beef was perfectly cooked and everything was so tasty! The roasties were also soooooo good!
The portions sizes were just right, leaving us just enough room for dessert. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get a picture of our food as we snaffled it too quickly!!
We definitely recommend visiting here!

Local pub mischief, April 2025
In April we decided to visit famous Unicorns Head, mentioned and recommended by lots of our friends and colleagues.
There is a set menu (available Monday-Thursday) and menu a'la carte. The choice is decent. There are gluten-free options, along with vegetatian and vegan dishes.
The place also offers delicious freshly cooked breakfast (served at the weekends 9.30am - 11.30am), Sunday roast, bottomless brunch, fryday chippy tea. Prices are a little higher comparing to places nearby.
We got gluten-free burger, pie of the day (chicken, ham and parsley), snitzel and baked salmon on tomato purree. The food was served promptly considering how busy it was. The portions were good and the food was just delicious and full of flavour. As we liked the starters and mains so much, we decided to try desserts too and they were also very tasty!
The staff was nice and helpful, attentive to dietary restrictions.
As the restaurant was full, it was quite loud and we couldn't carry on with conversation as we couldn't hear each other. Other than that, it was really nice evening.
The place is spacious, there are a few rooms to dine, outside terraced area, beer garden. Wheelchair accessible.
The place is nice and some of the rooms are really cosy which is always a nice touch.
The extra plus for this place is that they supply with local products and support local businesses.
To me this place exceeded the expectations of local pub dining, it was so far the ultimate dining experience in the area, thank you.

Booked a table after trawling through the Internet for a roast lamb Sunday dinner. Menu stated roast leg of Derbyshire lamb. We travelled a conciderable distance for this to be told lamb was not on the menu BUT, Let me state for the record (whilst feeling let down) we ordered the ultimate. Oh it was to die for. It was gorgeous so go hungry and you will not be disappointed. You will be if you want lamb tho. Enjoy

I've tried most of the menu. Absolutely delicious, every single dish is lovely. Even so, my own number one, is flat iron steak.

Booked for Sunday lunch. Ordered at the bar and made specific requests over how well beef was to be cooked on different meals. Server unfortunately managed to get them muddled up and we had to swap the meals about. I had a small portion roast and whilst it was beautifully cooked and presented, I didn't enjoy having rich roast beef gravy on my roast chicken dinner. It would have been better if the gravy was basically neutral and not made to accompany 1 meat. Slightly disappointed in that there was no stuffing with the chicken either. No choices of vegetables and only roast potatoes, no mashed. Mashed swede is not everyone's ideal and neither is cabbage. Prices Slightly high in light of lack of vegetables and accompaniments. Probably wouldn't go again.

A little disappointed with our last visit. The staff were not very friendly at all, bordering on rude. And all the tables were very sticky.
