Lovely pub in a gorgeous setting. I booked 1 night to escape and was greeted by lovely staff. The food was delicious, and the room had a selection of Ringtons tea, coffee, and biscuits, which was a nice touch! I will definitely be returning to sample Sunday lunch. Thank you for making me feel welcome ?

Such a shame, we had an awful time, we went back here after having an amazing Sunday lunch a few month previously. Advertised a special New Years Eve menu, which was just the sunday lunch menu and one fish pasta option. When we arrived staff behind the bar just pointed us to the table we had reserved. Then as we we were eating the fire was lit badly which filled the room with smoke and ruined our meal. We were asked if we wanted to move, which we did but had to carry our plates across the pub ourselves. Considering this was £18 a main, was not impressed with the food. The food was undercooked and cold, clearly an afterthought on NYE. I?m quite annoyed that it was advertised as a special menu and then treat as an inconvenience once we got there. We left half way through our mains because they weren?t very nice and the atmosphere was not good, wish we never bothered.

Very disappointed.. maybe we just caught a bad time of year ( day after Boxing Day). Not very welcoming.. it was a cold miserable day.. the kind of place you would expect to walk in to a roaring fire.. it wasn?t lit, and the room was cold. We had a 90 year old with us, who left her coat on. Everytime you asked the lady who was behind the bar a question ( even though she had no one else there.. she said? can you just give me a minute?.. I?m sure the computer screen could have waited!.. it made you feel like you were a nuisance.. running a pub you need to be able to multi task. The food wasn?t good at all.. all seemed to have just come out of a freezer.. definitely not home cooked. Won?t ever be going back.

Really worth a visit, we went for Sunday lunch which was cooked to perfection. Price reasonable so highly recommended. Parking limited but its right in middle countryside so to be expected.

We stayed 2 nights in the gorgeous huge apartment for a nearby wedding. Absolutely loved our stay. Staff lovely. We only had soup and breakfast but both good. Lovely views and location. Recommend the drive to Stanhope over the moors. Easy parking outside.

Check in: perfect, very friendly and welcoming Room: very spacious, clean, everything we needed, nice decor complementing the building and environment. Food: enjoyed a beautiful meal and drinks. Great entertainment in the bar. Staff: super friendly and helpful. The landlady was so kind, friendly, helpful, couldn?t do enough to ensure an enjoyable stay. The definition of arrive a stranger and leave a friend. A true attribute to the business. Breakfast: beautiful breakfast and plenty of choice, on a personal note I?m not a fan of pepper but on future visits I will request my breakfast without. Will absolutely visit again without hesitation and have already recommended to my friends and family!

Lovely warm and friendly welcome following a very late, last minute booking. Room lovely. Evening meal (homemade pies) were of a great size and very tasty. Fabulous breakfast, all fresh and tasty. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed an amazing stay here for 3 nights with Beau our Springer spaniel in the apartment above , Ruth & all of her team went above & beyond to look after us, food & service was excellent great location for walks & history, we will definitely return , thanks to each & every team member , relaxed bar & friendly local people & a decent pint of Guinness George & Marie
