Breakfast at Bywell Coffee Barn is clearly a local favourite and beloved cyclist's stop (at least at Saturday morning ?).
In fact, it's one of the few places where you'll see a whole peloton politely queuing and even apologising as they perform the classic clipless-shuffle to place their orders.
One peculiarity here: you choose your table, then order and pay at the counter. Very practical for the staff, perhaps less so for those of us hoping for a touch of ceremony.
Still, you adapt, follow the rules and focus on what really matters - a hearty breakfast in a café with charm.
Will definitely return ?

Went to their first Classic car show. Some really interesting stuff. For future reference I think it needs a bigger field and consistent advertising. Some was free and some paying to display

Bywell Coffee Shop is an absolute gem! The coffee is consistently good The food is another huge plus .The staff are friendly and welcoming, and they seem to genuinely love what they do. I also highly recommend their pastries?they're always fresh and delicious. If you're in the area and looking for a fantastic coffee experience, Bywell is a must-visit.

The young girl serving at the counter needs to understand that it is incredibly rude to yawn in customer's faces when taking their orders

I would like to share my experience of the visit I had on the 5th of August 2025 time was 1.40
First at the coffee shop, which was absolutely excellent food as always was amazing and the staff were very attentive. I like to go here because I?m able to take the dog with us and the stuff always makes a big fuss of her.
But this is where the pleasant experience ends. On leaving the café, we decided to have a look around the shop. The assistant who works there seems to be unable to crack a smile. She has worked here for many years and not once have I ever seen her with a smile on her face.
After I had looked around the downstairs area, I was making my way up the stairs , the dog had gone before me when I heard this Voice saying ? you have to carry the dog up the stairs?. As I have done this many times before and have gone upstairs many times before with the dog I have never had to do this. However, I picked the dog up and I went upstairs. Once upstairs I put the dog back down as she is particularly heavy and I am receiving treatment for cancer and it?s quite difficult for me to carry you. Within seconds this assistant was upstairs and shouted.? I told you, you have to carry the dog.? I?ve responded by saying I?m sorry I hadn?t realised that she said I told you.
This woman obviously thought I was a five-year-old child and not a 61-year-old man. She was extremely rude and had a stinking attitude.
I know she?s not the owner as I have spoken to her many days before and she has been nothing but pleasant. I have also made many purchases here and I?ve never had to deal with this type of experience. I can forgive her for having a sore face, but certainly not for her attitude.
The owner wants to do herself a favour and give this woman the push as she is damaging her business.
I was actually gonna make the purchase as I had seen something downstairs however I decided just to leave the shop I would also like to point out carrying such a heavy dog is also extremely dangerous when coming down the stairs
Unfortunately, what started off as a very pleasant day ended on a bad note

This is a lovely cafe situated on a farming estate. The food was lovely, especially the sandwiches and pie of the day, maybe a bit on the expensive side, but well worth it. Dogs are allowed inside in a designated area and definitely encouraged to keep all four paws on the floor! Sadly no treats for them and no water bowls, which is probably a good thing in the light of recent stories of dogs that have fallen ill after drinking from contaminated water. Across the road from the cafe is a beautiful walk passing the fields full of purple flowers. Well worth a visit.

Situatied in rolling countryside, the Bywell Coffee Barn sits overlooking the Tyne Valley near Corbridge.
In quiet converted farm buildings the coffee shop stands amongst a small cluster of interesting local businesses all of which deserve a moment or more to explore and appreciate.
On offer are hot foods and snacks, light lunches and a delectable sampling of cakes, pastries and other tempting treats.
The coffee is hot and dark, with an excellent depth of flavour, a sophisticated offering on a cold windswept day.

My husband is coeliac. I loved the care this café took over ensuring his meal was gluten free. Super delicious cakes whether you could eat gluten or not!
