Lodging in Seaton Burn, Northumberland

“My husband and I stayed at Seaton Burn Travelodge from 21st to 23rd September 2023. We were warmly greeted on arrival and given our keys. When we entered room 4 we found that the main light was not working and my husband approached reception and mentioned the fact. We were understanding that maintenance would not be available at that time on a Thursday evening. The receptionist (we later found out to be the manager Joanne) came along to the room and checked the lighting and immediately offered to try and get us another accessible room, which she did (room 1). Later in the evening (it was half-time during the France game of the rugby world cup) I went outside to have a cigarette. Before I even opened the door to reception, I heard an extremely loud voice coming from reception. On entering reception, a Scottish woman was bawling and shouting at Joanne about her bed not being changed every day of her stay and her bathroom not being thoroughly and fully cleaned on a daily basis. Johanne in a calm and controlled voice was trying to explain the policy of Travelodge but the woman was not willing to even listen to the explanation and continued to shout at Joanne. I went outside and had my cigarette and came back in and asked Joanne if she was ok after the amount of verbally abusive behaviour she had just been exposed to. No-one needs to be subjected to that type of behaviour let alone accept it. Joanne had held herself in an exemplary manner throughout and should be commended for her composure. This Travelodge was immaculately clean both inside and out. The housekeeping staff also deserve to be appreciated for the levels of cleanliness and hygiene. We both found that all the staff from housekeeping to management were friendly, courteous, and approachable. A team of employees to be proud of. We both feel ashamed to be Scots following this woman’s outburst and attitude and if this had happened in a Retail business in Scotland she would have been reported to the Police for prosecution and barred from the premises.”
