The kind lady behind the bar was explaining their new ownership. Myself and friends called in for food and drinks after a long walk. Cosy warm little pub offering a decent enough range of food at a reasonable cost. There was no suggestion of any GF options, but was considerate of allergies.

Just went for Sunday lunch. They served brilliant food at a reasonable cost. The owners have recently taken over and they intend to carry out refurbishments. Simply the best crumble ever!

A fantastic pub in a beautiful area! We ate lunch here twice in the week that we were staying up at Kidlandlee, and the food was absolutely delicious on both occasions. The pub has recently changed hands and the new owners are so friendly and welcoming. Our children enjoyed the pool table, darts board, dominoes and games on a very wet afternoon, whilst we enjoyed the Pale Ale and ciders on offer. There is something for everyone, of any age, on the menu, and it is served beautifully. We will definitely come back when next in the area.

Lovely food and great atmosphere. Will definitely come again. Food is wholesome and locally produced The hosts are a lovely couple and although there was music it was just in the back ground and not too intrusive. Thank you.

Enjoyed a really nice meal at The Rose & Thistle. The pub's just been take over. The menu on offer looks really good. The pub does need a refurb. and once that's done, it'll certainly be a top class restaurant/pub to and visit. In the meantime I'd urge people to go and try the restaurant because they won't be disappointed!

Stayed at Alwinton and popped into the Rose and Thistle for a bite to eat and a drink. The food was absolutely delicious and one thing I loved was the children's menu is a smaller portion of the menu. Dogs are allowed in the bar and the atmosphere was very comfortable and friendly. I was alone (apart from the dog) but was perfectly at ease to sit and eat on my own, in some places I have not felt comfortable eating alone. The bar staff were very young but knew what they were doing and the service was good. I will certainly go back next time I am in the area.Nearby activities: It's in the perfect location for walking in the Cheviots

We were so looking forward to a lovely meal here after visiting last summer and loving it. Unfortunately ,we didn't know that it had changed hands. The previous owners ran it as a country pub with an eclectic mix of furnishings but great home coooked food. We hadn't booked as hadn't realised it was different but they did very kindly fit us in despite it being a Friday night. We are a family with a young child and unfortunately the new menu offers nothing for children at all. All that was suggested was ordering from the menu and they would ask chef for a smaller portion but the meals unfortunately weren't anything a child would typically eat. The meals were a bit more expensive than other pubs and very well presented and it's clear they are trying to turn it into a restaurant rather than a country pub but we felt if that was the case then they need a full renovation as the higgedly piggedly old creaky furnishings really don't tie in with the kind of food on offer. If you like fancy foods with a great view then this is great. If you are just looking for a cozy countryside pub, then this probably isn't the best choice.

Our first time since this pub changed hands. Two of us went for a light lunch. Really lovely friendly and welcoming staff and our dog was welcome. The food was delicious, fresh and piping hot. I came home with a doggy bag. Beautiful views and a lovely outdoor area. I thoroughly recommend. Good luck to the new management team.

My family and I had a fabulous meal today, at The Rose and Thistle pub in Alwinton. The staff were great, so friendly and welcoming. A real homely atmosphere and the food was excellent. Best burger I think I?ve ever had! Highly recommend the homemade cheesecake, which was to die for!! The menu was great and there was something for all the family. Will definitely be back and would recommend this lovely pub to anyone!

New chef and management have really improved this lovely pub. We received a warm welcome and had a very tasty lunch. Nice view of the Cheviots from the bar and beer gardens.

Lovely warm welcome and lovely pub food. Nice panoramic views from the bar towards the Cheviots. Would highly recommend the fish finger sandwiches and belly pork platter we tried (separately).
