“Christian visitors to Holy Island for the day (30.08.23), I was with my sister and her three young girls, whom I was visiting in Newcastle. It was the most beautiful day and we thought we would have a quick bite before driving back, enjoying the view. After a rude and hugely unwelcoming experience at the much grander Manor Hotel pub (who refused to serve us, and said there were no tables free when we could see one with no 'reserved' sign) we went across the road to the Crown and Anchor who, though they had run out of mains (I think because of bookings) couldn't have been nicer and more hospitable. They bent over backwards for us. It is not at all smart - more like the old fashioned sawdust floor cum public rooms in inns of yore - but I would take a great atmosphere over a gentrified interior, any day. They provided the girls with nuggets and chips, I had a great pint of a local ale (I think it was Farne Island; delicious) and we had a lovely time in the beer garden. The locals both inside and out were very welcoming and chatty to us; we responded in kind!Noteworthy details: Wonderful views outside across towards the island and sea of Lindisfarne towards Lindisfarne Castle, and in the other direction towards Lindisfarne Abbey. Also, dog friendly.”

“This was an outstanding place to stay. Warm welcome and thorough orientation to the accommodation and local area. Beautiful decor (full of charm and character) and location (right by the River Tweed with lovely views across the old bridge to Berwick). Completely chemical-free so a real refuge for those with chemical sensitivities. Short and easy walk from the train station and into Berwick itself, with a great little wholefoods store and vegan-friendly cafes close by. Which brings me to the breakfasts. Oh my goodness. What to say? Clearly lovingly prepared. Fresh. Seasonal. Organic. Delicious. Nutritious. Lots of choice. And Karen was so flexible with my food sensitivities - making special dishes for me each day and always checking in with me to make sure I would be okay with what she was preparing. She even went the extra mile and prepared me a sumptuous lunch so I could eat on the train on my way home as I struggle to find workable options when I'm on the move. And although I struggle to be vegan in my day-to-day life because of the allergies and intolerances I currently have to numerous plant-based foods, staying at Loaf has added extra inspiration for me to be as plant-based as possible, and to hopefully be able to move towards a completely plant-based diet in time. Heartfelt thanks to Karen and big thumbs up for Loaf!”

“Went with my family for a meal on Sunday evening as we were holidaying in the area Messaged to book a table and they answered promptly. Friendly staff lovey meal, best meal we had had all weekend. Food was fresh and very tasty. I accidentally left my handbag under the table I had just realised when we got back to our accommodation when they messaged me to say they had found it and would keep it safe until I return for it. Wry much appreciated thank you”

“Without hesitation, I would say this is the best steak pie I've ever had.Unbelievably tasty. The meat still had a pink tinge to it. I'm not even sure how that's possible when put into a pie dish.My little boy and better half both had the roast beef Sunday roast. Luckily for me, the wee man never ate all his, so I got to taste it.The roast beef was cooked to perfection. I've had this same dish at many restaurants, but this was by far the most flavourful and tender beef I've tasted served in this fashion. The vegetables were delicious and again cooked perfectly. The waitress even made extra Brocoli for the little man because he said it was his favourite. The service here was great and the staff were lovely. The only thing wrong I would say if I was nit picking is that the background music of the place was very quiet. This meant that if nobody else in the restaurant was talking then everyone could hear what you say which can be a bit awkward sometimes.Overall I would highly recommend this place. Family friendly. Dog friendly. Nice quiet atmosphere. Great service. And exceptionally tasty food.If you are a haven caravan park regular or owner this is a must anytime you take a trip down to the caravan.”

“On arrival I thought that the 24hr McDonald's drive through was going to be a problem, but thanks to the immensely comfy bed it wasn't. A travel lodge with a sea view and easy access to East coast ?”

“I've passed by the Barn at Beal many times and wanted to stop and finally had the excuse to (my mum was in town). The venison stew was delicious and the tea most welcome. The staff were extremely friendly and always available if anything was needed. The little dog who went round to every table was particularly charming as anyone who fed him became his new favourite. Once the owner, a member of the staff, realised what was happening she had quite a time convincing him that he could not go home with the man who had fed him half his lunch. The view was beautiful.I will be stopping at Beal on my way to or from Holy Island for at least a cuppa and a cake from here on out.Nearby activities: Holy Island, Castle and Priory”
