Ordered a chicken madras costing £15. When it turned up it was literally a reheated Tesco ready meal. I have them at home for cheap suppers so I know what I was eating

Called in for a midday bite after a lovely walk along the dunes. It was very quiet for school holidays but we opted to sit in the beer garden with the dog as the weather was beautiful. The barman was extremely friendly asking about our visit to Alnmouth and suggesting local spots for more sightseeing. We ordered a sausage stotty with chips and 2 coffees, the sausages were delicious clearly top quality sourced from a local butchers. The staff gave us an extra side of chips as originally thought I had asked for 2 servings. I offered to pay but they insisted free of charge which was very kind. I've always wanted to visit the schooner as the building has a lot of history. I think looking at other reviews the age of the hotel (17th century coaching inn) needs to be taken into consideration, the inside is clean but dated which adds to the atmosphere imo. Food and drink was good value for money, delicious and decent portion. I'd definitely visit again soon.Noteworthy details: Apparently one of the most haunted buildings in Britain, 17th century coaching inn lots of beautiful original features

I have given one star because the Schooner is in a wonderful location.Today we visited, myself and my mum as we fancied some fish and chips!I don?t want to give much more of my time thinking about the experience but felt only right to review as we experienced today as don?t want anyone else left feeling the way we did.We thought something didn?t seem right by the way the man serving ignored us most of the time.We thought we?d ignore that and see what the food was like.Just as I paid for our food giving £40 cash, my mam said oh we will have to go elsewhere, as building work started right by the eating area, in the mean time I got offered no change back by the not so interested staff member as he just closed the till!We then explained before he starts the order that we couldn?t stay.I explained due to us not being able to stay and not feeling comfortable to eat there could he kindly give my mum her £40 back. All we got was awful responses and rudeness back.He said he didn?t have to give us the £40 back and it was a nightmare. We left, without having any food, really quite upset and out of £40.Absolutely disgusted in the man?s attitude. I asked if I could please speak to the manager, he said he was the manager. It said it all really.

Food Hygiene Rating of 0. Manager in trouble from breaching Fire Safety Regulations. Need I say anymore. This hotel was disgusting, we arrive late afternoon and was pointed to our room, the food from the kitchen smelt like it had been cooked in the same fat since 2005. The room was filthy; carpets dirty and not hoovered clearly for a very long time, mould growing on the lamps, pubic hairs in the bathroom, toilet paper somehow damp and towels were still wet. We went downstairs to say we can?t sleep there and we were shown to another room which was just as bad. We left and when I emailed the manager later on he said the room was clean and refused to give us a refund. He is now refusing to answer my emails. Such a pity, could be a nice place but I would avoid like the plague.

I don't usually write reviews, but this place deserves one. I arrived at about 10pm after a long day working, there was a slight mix up with the name on my booking (it was under my boss's name) and the member of staff on "reception" got quite huffy about it. I asked what time breakfast was served and was told "we don't do breakfast, but there is tea and coffee in your room", great. I was given my key and told where my room was. As I walked through the corridors, the musty smell got worse. I got to my room and let myself in, the room was not clean... dusty surfaces and old looking carpet. I went for a shower, the towel was threadbare, went to plug in my phone to charge, had to move the bed to get to the wall socket, that was hanging off the wall. Went to turn on the TV, had to move the cabinet to switch it on at the wall. Finally I got into bed but the mattress was so soft it was impossible to sleep. In the morning I went to make myself a chip of tea... the kettle had the remainder of the previous guests water and a thick layer of limescale, the outside of the kettle was filthy. I decided to skip the cuppa, check out and head out for a decent coffee... this was 8.30 on a Friday morning and there wasn't a sole about in reception. The shutters were drawn over the bar and reception with no indication as to where to leave the key and I needed a VAT receipt so needed to speak to someone. I left the empty reception to go to another hotel for a coffee with the plan of coming back to the Schooner to check out. When I returned I could not get back into the hotel as the door was on a latch... after 10 more mins a workman let me in and got the receptionist out of bed so I could check out. Avoid this place.

£14.50 for 2 pints of shandy and half a blackcurrant and lager! To sit in a dirty unkempt courtyard area, a disused toilet seat along with other rubbish, cigarette butts on the floor and raised beds that need weeding a very unpleasant and expensive experience, don?t bother going!

We chose this place for lunch and a drink as it was dog friendly and advertised a beer garden. Surly barman served our drinks, 1 pint beer shandy and 1 white wine - £14! Another couple there told us they were charged £8 for 2 soda water and limes. We took our drinks to the "beer garden" which was grubby and very poor. There was a huge hole in the floor in the dining area. You could see right down to the cellar, and this was on the way to the toilets. No warning signs to advise people of the danger of falling, an accident waiting to happen. The food menu had obviously been around the block a few times, drink stained and tatty with poor food choices so we decided to eat elsewhere. I can't ever recall feeling so uncomfortable/unwelcome in a place before. If you're ever in Alnmouth, do yourself a favour and walk straight past. So many lovely places as we discovered after leaving this one.

Stayed there from Friday 18/08/23 with my husband. The room was clean and towels and bed linen white which I always check. The food each day for the 3 nights was excellent both breakfast and evening meals. The indian meal was the best I have had in along time. More staff are required and certain points need attending to for example a breakfast menu and not word of mouth.More choice including fruit such as grapefruir, oranges even just tinned , crossiants and pasteries plus youguts.Brown sugar for coffe and salt and pepper cruets rather than small paper packets. They need to ensure that they do not run out of essentials such for example Mango Chutney and keep upto date with wines for sale as this can make or break a hotelOn the whole our stay was fine.Yes the building is dated, but then all the old pubs look very much the same as upkeep can be hard and need money spent on them.

We found the staff very friendly and helpful. We had an amazing meal here after returning from another venue we visited to listen to

3 star apparently well 1 star would be to many. This place is filthy and disgusting 10 ton of bleach wouldn?t sort it out. Rooms and walkways are in need of a total revamp spend 2 million and you might just scratch the surface. This place is supposed to be haunted and so the information goes on the web site King Charles stayed here well I hope it was a dog as that?s all it?s got for ?being cruel on a dog as well? locals in other establishments even state it brings the place down. Don?t go in any of the 3 nice pubs and tell them where you are staying they just laugh. In a nutshell wipe your feet on the way out. In fact just do not stay here unless you?re desperate.Nearby activities: Gets you out of this dump.

Booked a 2 night stay to go to a wedding nearby. Unfortunately we did not read reviews before booking. Alnmouth is a beautiful seaside village but unfortunately the Schooner Hotel is a letdown we arrived and stood waiting 15 minutes for someone to check us in. The entrance was dirty not welcoming at all. The rest of the hotel was dirty, miserable and need's a upgrade. The beds are old, room was dirty the only positive we could all say is the shower was good. I really wish I could be positive about a place that could possibly be a lovely.
