Simply wonderful. Tucked away in a quiet, protected traditional fishing village The Joiners is an utter delight for those seeking something a little out of the ordinary and surprising. Food is absolutely delicious - Chicken Skewers must be tasted to be believed. Fresh fish, sourced locally in portions suitable to sustain the almost obligatory walk along a stunning coastline. Will definitely be returning many more times.

Exceptionally expensive glass of coke..£4.10...this was extortionate..the chips weren't very nice too...an overpriced menu

Fish and chips are decent! Serving cheap sachets of tomato sauce as someone who owns a restaurant is scandal though! I can?t even have that near my kitchen!
We were told fully booked. It wasn?t as we came in after our food (seated outside) for a drink and all the tables are still empty. Is that a management problem? I wouldn?t have people sat outside if I wasn?t wall to wall. Left at quarter to 9 still no people taking tables!
Reviews saying fish and chips for £20.50 is too expensive are wrong! But I want proper Tatar sauce with capers floating about in it and Heinz tomato sauce?.
Did my best to be positive?service was fast and staff are spot on. Cheers.
Having our breakfast tomorrow here as staying up the road fingers crossed?

We had a great Sunday lunch here today. Food was excellent and the service was nice. Beer was spot on as well. Only thing I would say was food could have been just a little bit hotter but neither here nor there.

We stopped by for a bite to eat after a walk on the beach. Idilic setting. . Location was great as was the food and ambiance. Both outdoor and indoor eating space and cute bar. Would have given it a 5 star but bar staff were very unfriendly.

Local family, visit the restaurant all year round. Visited today for 5 fish and chip takeaway meals (1 vegan). Firstly, £20+ is daylight robbery, 25% increase from low season which to be frank is too much then as well, however convenience dictated the choice. Previous quality has been good, not today. Fish batter overcooked, brown not golden and you can decide if 12 oversized but undercooked rock hard chips is acceptable. Looked forward to going but will look forward to elsewhere next time.

We were going to book in to come here this weekend and just read your owner?s response to bad reviews on google, it is sad that you have a passive aggressive response to people complaining. You clearly don?t care about the food or service as you get enough traffic through the door to keep the bills paid which is sad. Maybe you could respond to feedback a little better especially if it is your business.

Breakfast is superb, best I have had over the two weeks across Northumbria, and York.. Dinner: drinks great, appetizers excellent, monkfish was delightful, great pairing with the sliced peppers to add spice if wanted. Salmon main was perfectly cooked, however the Surf and Turf, steak was flavorless, prawns overcooked and mushy, and the bisque sauce very bland. As the most expensive dish I expected more.
I brought this up when asked how the mains were. And was told by the then self described manager she would confer with the chef and come back for comments.
She came back and informed us she had conferred with the chef and that was how he wanted the meal, (I had not eaten any but 2 bites of the steak and half a prawn) she then informed us that if she had been made aware of the issue when she asked about the food earlier she may have been able to take care of it.
I told her that no one did recall that she asked during the mains (did ask during starters all were great) and even if she did I was waiting for a side dish and peeling the prawns to out the shells in that dish as they were served full in shell, so had never even taken a bite. So perhaps that was the misunderstanding.
She then doubled down and practically yelled she would never forget asking, she is the manager! And we all said everything was good..
At this point myself, my parents and their family friends from York were 100% over this experience.. couldn?t wait to leave.
I am still staying at the hotel for two more nights, cannot recommend it more, breakfast amazing.. dinner? Beware of the manager..

Nice pub, a bit pricey, but beer was OK. Which may have had an impact on people leaving early.
Bit surprised when they said bar was closed without warning. Not going to lie a little disappointed.

Disappointing, overpriced stay.
Unfortunately few good things to say about the place other than friendly enough staff and a nice shower/fluffy robe/good mattress to relax in after a day of hiking.
Our evening meal was a disaster. The saving grace was not needing to pay - thank you. For that I won't share the details.
Unfortunately the room was unsatisfactory for what we paid - £240. We rolled up the rug as it smelt of dog. The room generally felt dark, damp and there was a lot of noise from the rest of the building. It also needed a DIY makeover as plenty of things felt broken.
Breakfast was uninspiring. Really low quality (premier inn equivalent), small portions and it felt tragic that you needed to pay £5 more for some of the dishes, eg avo toast. The tables were sticky and seats full of crumbs.
We honestly thought this was going to be a bougie gastropubby retreat in the middle of our hiking trip, but it was so far from that. Our no frills bell tent the night before was better! Would not recommend to a friend.

Short visit to the area and chose to eat here due to the location in comparison to accommodation. Poor welcome into what looks like a very inviting pub , two bar staff on , no customers to serve , yet too busy chatting amongst themselves to acknowledge customers walking through the door. Eventually directed around the corner to dining staff , who were really pleasant and accommodating. This helped greatly as unfortunately on this occasion the food was poor. Ordered seafood platter to share, which sounded more appealing than it was , tasteless prawn cocktail and crab salad ,one taste was a taste too.much , Iceland could provide better although it could be questioned if these were actually frozen ! Concerns were acknowledged by the dining staff however if the kitchen were more attentive this would make a better experience for everyone. Quite sad considering the positive reviews of the past

I had a 2 night stay and my room was The Till. It was fabulous loved the decor .Despite being at a pub the room was away from the main building so was quiet and peaceful. Fabulous breakfast menu and lovely friendly staff Thankyou.
