A good stopping place for C2C. Allenhead Inn has secure bike storage and a 'drying room'. Rooms are clean. It's a very old building with a traditional Inn set up.
Food was really nice - I would recommend the home made lasagne, after a day of cycling coast to coast. Breakfast was delicious to, help fuel up the final 2 big hills on day 3.
The bar was great, with a wide range of beers and drinks, traditional style decor, and a fire. I visited on a Friday evening and it was very busy with locals from 4pm -a real hub of the community - It even has a 'moth of the week' picture on the board.
All the staff (and the locals) were all very friendly people, and helpful, and made my stay relaxing and enjoyable. Special mentions go to April and Lars who were very hospitable and friendly to me during my stay.

My two sons and I have just had the pleasure of staying at the legendary Allenheads Inn whilst doing the C2C challenge, the place to stay when doing the original route, Ann was a fantastic host as usual and the amazingly friendly staff couldn?t do enough to please, nothing was too much trouble, I?ve stayed in this historic Inn a few times now and it?s an amazing experience, friendly locals make it a great atmosphere after a hard day in the saddle, thank you Allenheads Inn for making our C2C experience amazing again.

What a dog friendly pub. An absolutely beautiful pub, recently renovated in the heart of the community. It has the most amazing spiral staircase, which is grade 2 listed, which you have to ascend to get to the ladies. We went in several times during our holiday, even walking 6 miles there and getting the bus back to our holiday cottage. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough!

Not a Premier Inn - but so much the better for it. Human interaction abounds! This ancient pub in the middle of bleak moors is ideal as a base for night 2 of the C2C Whitehaven to Tynemouth. We arrived soaked on a cold Friday in early May to a warm welcome. Food nourishing. The bar had brilliant beers, a roaring fire and was heaving with young people. Where did they come from? Where did they go? Don't ask about the five pointed star on the wall!

Ann and Phil have an excellent inn. My room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, there was also an attached sitting room. The cook was also excellent, her lasagna with chips was very, very good. Phil also served an excellent breakfast. I wish I could have stayed longer.
