A group of four throughly enjoyed an excellent lunch. One of the party choose the two course lunch special which proved to be excellent value.

Wonderful old pub but let down by very inconsistent service - in the restaurant, we had to go up and ask somebody to take our order, then flag them down for the bill. Rounding things off - we wanted to have a drink in the oldest section of the pub by the front door. No one was there. We waited? and waited. Finally I had to go flag somebody down with a very rushed apology - and we had to wait some more. Shame as the pub part is lovely - but I?d avoid.

Food was so disappointing. Portion was small. Just bland overall. Smoked fish dish came with bacon sprinkled all over it which was awful for my pescatarian friend. Other fish dishes on the menu were rejected for this reason but it wasn't mentioned on the menu for this one. None of us enjoyed our meal. Won't be back which is a shame coz it's such a nice place.

Have been eating here many times, never disappointed, Sunday roast so lovely, especially the eye of silverside done to perfection. Staff very attentive friendly and polite, service good. Always get the impression staff aim to please. Prices are good value as portions good also .
