Great Hotel with very friendly staff nothing was too much trouble

Just back from a two day break with my wife this has been our 6th time at the hotel and was great as ever great food and the staff brilliant and the weather we got was fantastic hope to be back soon
Rooms: Good big rooms and all you need in them
Walkability: The only draw back I had as a poor walker for such a big car park there is only about 5 disabled parking spaces and cars parked in them without a badge
Food and drinks: The food is fist class and drinks ? ok

We stayed for 4 nights as part of a larger group and found all the staff to be friendly and helpful; our breakfast, lunch and evening meals were perfectly cooked and finally our bed and room were very comfortable. The only criticism I have is that the carpet on the corridors would need replaced, which I?ve no doubt will happen.

Lodge
We recently organised a residential weekend for well over 100 women in The Lodge over the weekend 21st - 23rd March 2025. We cannot speak highly enough of this hotel. From the beginning of the booking process to the actual weekend all our queries were dealt with courteously; nothing was too much trouble. The staff were welcoming, helpful and attentive and the food was very good and excellent value. A special mention to Vicky who managed everything for us. We will definitely be back.

Only want to share my experiences at this hotel last Sunday 23rd March, took my mum.x dad out for there anniversary as they were 66 years married. What a disaster place , lovely hotel but justa pitty staff dosnt care , we got our meals x we ordered desserts half us got desserts x had it ate before the other half the table ever got there's , then I told the girl after we are finished if she would like to bring the cake out with a cake knife x 10 side plates , cake came out no knife nore plates , we waited 20 min I said to a lad that was on the floor he said OK walked away another 20 min still no words this stage everybody at the table was getting pissed off with the way we were being treated I got up went down to the till this girl was standing i ask her is she supervisor/ manager she said yes I told her she is the3rd person I've ask for a cake knife x 10 side plates she walked away lands out with the knife no plates. I thought this is a joke so we all use our saucers. We went to pay the supervisor/ manager was at the till we payed x my son inlaw ask her was there a reason why we didn't get the side plates x it took so long for a cake knife she looked at me I told her I ask 3 members of staff x they still didn't get it rite she rolled her eyes no apologise, very bad customer service, to me your staff needs training properly how to deal with customers, it was very disappointing as it was a special day for my mum x dad x the way we were treated was shocking, so I can't c we will be bk any time soon .

Absolute kip staff were so very pleasant dinner was just about edible but breakfast was diabolical pure dries out rubbish
The bedroom was unbelievably small the bathroom was 1880 style and equipment
I can?t put into words how much it was awful
I?d sleep in the car rather than stay there again

Disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. There was visible mold on the bathroom ceiling, around the shower, and on other surfaces. The carpet and doors were also dirty, making the room feel poorly maintained. For the price and reputation of the hotel, I expected much better hygiene standards. The staff were friendly, but the overall cleanliness seriously needs improvement.

The hotel, unfortunately, did not meet expectations and left much to be desired. The rooms are outdated and in clear need of significant upgrades. The furnishings, decor, and amenities feel worn and neglected, giving the space a tired and unwelcoming atmosphere. It?s evident that the property has not been maintained to modern standards, which detracts from the overall comfort and experience.
One of the most frustrating aspects of the stay was the lack of soundproofing. The noise from the hallway was particularly disruptive, especially at night. Every footstep, conversation, or movement from other guests or staff could be heard clearly, making it nearly impossible to get a good night?s sleep. This issue alone significantly impacted the quality of the stay and left me feeling exhausted and frustrated.
Overall, the hotel falls far short of the desired level of comfort and quality one would expect. While it might suffice for a very short stay in a pinch, I would strongly advise against choosing this property if there are other options available. The combination of outdated rooms, poor maintenance, and noise issues makes it difficult to recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a pleasant and restful experience.

My husband and I had an evening meal on 8th March'25. Kerry on reception was very helpful, warm greeting and actually was able to seat us right away instead of waiting a half hour until our booking time. Much appreciated. Harvey brought our drinks to the table. Thank you Harvey, you were very professional and had a good way with you. We both enjoyed our main meal, sweet chilli chicken. Alex brought us our meal and took our payment at end of the night, and you were just great at your job, thank you. Altogether a very enjoyable time at The Lodge

Family stayed here overnight and were not impressed with their room.
It would seem that money had been spent on the downstairs but sadly the bedroom needed a revamp... Especially the bathroom.
However breakfast was very good, but we found the bar somewhere expensive.
It was ok for a one night stay apart from the bathroom

We went lastnyt for a family meal for our daughters 40TH Birthday..Firstly the decor is lovely, we had a lovely girl that served us, friendly and helpful, her boss wasn't a friendly, seemed like everything was a bother, I got the numbers wrong for the Meal, we needed 3 more seats which to me wasn't an issue as the place was quite empty, plenty of spare tables around us, the girl said no problem but the team leader or dining room boss said NO not possible, the other few tables beside us were booked, I said we don't need another table, just 3 more chairs..he eventually shook his head and 3 chairs came, this was a Tue nyt, place was almost empty, not busy at all..orders given and food came in good time, thats when I was very disappointed, tobacco onions were mushy, soggy, not crispy, chicken ws ok, garlic fries ok, I used to love the food in the Lodge, sadly not lastnyt, 1 guest got crispy chicken, overcooked and he could hardly cut it, it wasn't a super busy nyt like a Fri or Sat, it was a Tue nyt, the prices they charge the food going out should be better and perfectly cooked..I'm not one to complain on the night, I just don't return to the establishment, I asked everyone at the table if their meals were nice and they all said, its OK, it shouldn't be ok, all meals should be tasty, lovely, wanting guests to return again and again and recommend the Bistro to others..I asked for the 2 candles to be lit on the birthday cake and 3 sparklers, the bistro manager or whoever he was said No, only 1 sparkler can be lit because of the smoke!! I've never had an issue like this in any other establishment..I think the tall bold headed Bistro manager or whatever he is does need retrained, our server was lovely, friendly, blonde haired girl, I'm sorry I didn't get her name, or his, but he made me feel quite uncomfortable, I regret now not saying something to him lastnyt but I felt intimidated by him, the standards have slipped in the food, when people are paying hard earned money for a starter and mains then the food should be outstanding, whether its a 2star or 5star..we have eaten in small cafes that the food was nicer, perfectly cooked food, hot and tasty, The Bistro in the Lodge Hotel was under par im afraid and I wont rush back, there are better places to eat and have a more pleasant floor boss..
