What can make or break a rating is sometimes really basic. In this case the sheer hospitality shown by John made it memorable. Good room ( though needed the heating on in advance and back on earlier in the morning) and comfy bed. Wi-Fi worked well. Decent breakfast. Thank you.

I absolutely loved my stay at Ardgort House!! There's a definite quirky country house ambiance to the place. Our host, the lovely John, was very welcoming and helpful. The en-suite bedrooms are spacious, clean and well presented, with good quality linens. There's a bar for guests should you wish to partake. The full Irish breakfast was delicious.Overall, it's great value for the price.I happily recommend Ardgort House. ?

We stayed one night at Ardgort House and we liked everything about it. The house is nice and all the rooms were clean, have a nice touch to them and have a charming look.Parking spaces are right in front of the house on the property with a secure gate. The best thing was John, the owner of the house. He is such a nice guy and wants to make a perfect stay for everyone. You can really see, that he gives his best to please the guests.

Hotel was OK for our 2 night stay. Dated but suited the place we were at.But John who owns the place could not do enough for us. And his brekkie was brilliant.. xWalkability: Very close to bars and restaurants.

First impressions as we entered the property the musty smell hit you straight away, the host greeted us straight away but seemed to have a problem with us having a pre drink in our room with alcohol (we age range from mid 30's to 40's not 12)Room had very old & tired furniture & curtains that let the light through as soon as sunrise came, the wardrobe had fusty smell, cracks on sink in bathroom, tape keeping carpet/mats down all over the place. Our door only locked once for us, & I believe the host entered our room while we were at the event we were attending & removed charger plugs from the extension Lead & turned a light off that was left on in bathroom clearly without our permission or telling us he did so! I found that rather concerning. The heat in the room was on all night which left sleeping very uncomfortable. He also asked us the next day before leaving if we could tidy the room before checking out as he had more guests staying that night which was rather strange as I thought when you stay somewhere the staff clean a room after guests leave not the guests,( the room was not messy anyway) I do hope the beds were changed for the next guests that were using the room but the host said his sister was not good in care home & he had to rush off to see her so he wouldn't be there when we left but as we were leaving the other guests from our room went on ahead to car & I used thr facilities & when leaving the room the host went to open door as i was opening it & he seemed to of rushed up the stairs to come check the room which i thought couldn't as he wasnt going to be there on check out time. I again found this very strange it was as if he was checking to see how we left the room.Location is good for what we needed it for, but I most certainly wouldn't return for the hospitality side.

I stayed for one night as had a local business meeting. I travel overnight most weeks and at accustomed to the usual often soulless chain hotels. John is a great host who can?t do enough for you. It?s worth being aware that some sites state there is an a la carte restaurant. This is currently not the case. The town?s restaurants I understand are all closed for good. John drove into the town while I unpacked, to let me know what food was available. There is fish and chips or a pizza place. You can?t really eat this food in your room though, so just be aware of this. Breakfast is cooked to order, much nicer than a buffet. There weren?t many guests when I stayed which made it peaceful. It?s a very different kind of stay. If you want a warm welcome and a quirky hotel, this is for you. I would stay again but maybe not for a long time as would like to have a restaurant and a bar.

We loved it all! From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome. John greeted us and brought us to our room, he made sure we had everything we needed and even gave recommendations for going to Derry city. The room its self was clean, especially the fresh white linens and had everything we needed, we loved the classical style of the home. We had a great sleep and the bed was comfortable. We had a double room with a bath and had access to a shared balcony. Room was a nice temperature, not cold or damp. Breakfast had lots of options, unlimited cereals, fruits, toast etc. I ordered scrambled eggs and they were great, my husband is gluten free and John even threw on more when he heard so he would have a bigger breakfast - very generous. Beautiful, friendly dog Tilly out the front if you wish to hang out but if your not a dog person, don't worry she stays outside :) We were very happy with our stay and would definitely come back!! 10/10

Booked for 3 nights. Had to leave after 2 nights. Room was damp, no heat, mould on walls, no working lock on outside of bedroom door. Bar/lounge not opened for guest use. No heat in communal areas or lightning. Unsafe for young family to stay to go near. Had to ask owner for Heat to be put on in our damp room on two nights in a row. We where the only guests in accommodation. Bar lounge was not functioning and had no lightning or heat in any area. Breakfast was awful, tasteless hot food, kids cereal was 6 months out of date. One elderly man running the whole place on his own with no support staff. Place is a health hazard and not somewhere where people can relax and enjoy there stay. Place smells of dampness from lack if heating in guest house. Place feels like it has been abandoned many years ago. Cigarette smoke smell throughout corridors and rooms. Owner didn't have bar opened on nights of our stay, let alone put heat or lights on for kids to enjoy the area when he decided fit to open it. Tables and chairs where stacked up, cover was on pool table, no music or TV on for kids. We where confined to our cold damp room. Bed linen had Stains, and where cold and damp on arrival. Damp patches on walls and Duct tape on floor holding carpet down. Our balcony was flooded with water and unsafe to use, it also had no lighting at night time. Gates of accommodation where closed over at night and we had to open them ourselves to exit property on both mornings. We decided on Friday evening when we came back from our day out to a cold room, that we could not stay another night in this dungeon of a place, we kindly asked owner to refund our final night stay on the Saturday morning. He blatantly refused to issue us a refund for cancellation of our final night. We told him our problems and he started stated he had "done everything" so we decided to leave that morning. We booked through booking.com and asked them to refund us, but obviously the owner refused to acknowledge our request about the awful conditions we had to endure during our stay here. Would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

Room and breakfast excellent. Spotlessly clean, spacious room and en suite and very comfortable, with an outside terrace and seating. John was a wonderful host, very helpful and friendly, and his recommendations for two local restaurants were spot on.

Stayed for one night and the owner made us most welcome, he went way above and beyond for us. Room was excellent (one of the best we've stayed in for a while). We spent a lovely evening in the bar with plenty of stories of the good old days from all concerned. We will be back next time we are down that way. PAul and Ash
