“It's all about upcycling and recycling these days. Our planet is suffering because of our insatiable appetite for a constant stream of possessions, which we use briefly then turf out. We hear daily news reports regarding the environmental dangers the planet faces and how rubbish dumps and landfill sites are overflowing with our cast off junk. Consequently there's a definite change in attitude. It's now extremely popular to recycle, re-use and prevent waste. Hence second hand and 'vintage' stores are increasingly popular. Oxfam Home is a great shop in which to pick up household furniture, reclaim it and give it a makeover with upholstering, painting, mosaic, varnish and crafting. A whole new pastime awaits! Oxfam sell everything from armchairs to pianos, all either perfect as they are or ripe for a makeover. There are now loads of courses and evening classes running which teach upholstery, furniture restoration and upcycling techniques. Get yourself an item from Oxfam and book into a class or check out some great upcycling ideas online (for example Plus you'll get a truly unique piece of furniture for your home in the process.”

“This second-hand bookstore located in the city center has a wide selection of books and second-hand DVDs. Those who like to read physical books can go digging for treasures. There are fewer selections of children's picture books and stories, and most of them are books for adults.”

“Another great charity shop for me to have a hoke about in. The lady working here wasn't very friendly, in fact she didn't even acknowledge my presence in the shop but hey, that's fine with me. Again a great collection of ladies garments and many from very expensive high street stores such as Jaegar and Karen Millan to name drop a few. Gotta love charity shops in affluent areas. This one is well run and organised as all the clothes are arranged by colour - i've never seen this done before. I had a look through but didn't see anything I wanted that day, though there was a nice pair of wedged sandals from River Island going at the very reasonable price of £3.00 which I may go back for another day. A decent experience and I'd say you would have a good chance of scooping a bargain in here. I said cheerio - she said nothing!”

“Absolutely amazing vintage store. Laid out well with lovely touches around to give the place a great vibe. It is rammed with great stuff to have a hunt through, there is an upstairs too. Seems really well priced. You may well get a little giddy on the sheer volume of clothes, this is definitely worth a visit”

“I'm in the store regularly and know the staff and the environment very well. They always have a great varied selection of very reasonably priced stock. The staff are very friendly and also very busy keeping the place running. Credit to the very generous public they do get lots of donations and sometimes for safety reasons they have to stop taking donations, but this is generally sorted quite quickly then it's back to business as usual. Times when they do have to temporarily stop taking donations 99% of customers who are donating are very understanding and generally come back another day. There's something for everyone, I recommend this store to all my family and friends and anyone who's reading! You're helping a great cause!”

“Super little charity shop where you can browse to your heart's content searching for the perfect item of clothing, hat, scarf, shoes or handbag. Sometimes you'll spot a few items you want and sometimes there will be nothing appealing - but that's half the fun! This Oxfam is much cheaper and better than a lot of other second hand shops or as they're called these days 'vintage' stores.”
