I have already sent an email to the restaurant but have never heard back from them. 8 of us went there after my daughter?s graduation. I had called a few times previous to see if we could order from a la carte and set menus. I was told that we each could choose from whichever menu we wanted. Also if I could bring a cake with me and have it cut and ate at table. Everything was no problem. When our waitress came over she told us if one person orders from one menu then we all had to order from same menu. My daughter wanted the filet which was only available on a la carte so we all had to order from a la carte, regardless of the fact that all the other choices were on the set menu for a lot less money. The waitress was very matter of fact and didn?t care that we were told different on the phone. The starters came out promptly. However, it took so much time to bring out the main course that we were almost out of time. The food was good except my sisters medium steak was tough. She ate it because there was no time to send it back. We were told right after we finished the food that they wouldn?t be able to cut the cake or let us eat it as the next people were waiting for our table. We were basically hurried out the door with full cake in hand. I had spent a lot of money on the cake and a lot of planning of how it should look and wasn?t even able to have my daughter cut it. She seen it from the boot of my car and didn?t even get a slice as we were going to different places. The reason we ran out of time was because it took forever for mains to come out. My bill was over £460 pounds and that only included 3 alcohol drinks. The way we were pushed out the door on the day my daughter graduated as a Doctor without so much as an apology was terrible. We all felt like we were an inconvenience and it was awkward having to leave with cake in hand. The day had been perfect up until James st. When people enter the restaurant and spend so much money on average food they should at least be treated with respect. I will never go to this restaurant again and have made it a point to tell everyone I know about our experience. The customer service is just awful.

My wife and myself visited James Street yesterday Sunday 18th August. We wanted to treat ourselves to celebrate our 4th Wedding Anniversary. We both went for the Sunday lunch option, they push you to get a side, as they say there isn?t much included with the meal, but at £28 you don't expect to need a side. It came out and looked fine, I didn?t mind that it was presented differently, though 1 single potato is mean IMHO when you?re paying good money. My main gripe is that the beef was tough and fatty. Very poor quality indeed. My wife?s wasn?t much better. To be fair I think we got a bad cut, I looked at other peoples plates and they got thicker better looking cuts. I would have told the waiter, but they never asked if everything was to our liking. As well as this, I told them we were out for our anniversary, and didn?t so much as say congratulations. Maybe I would go back sometime, but then again there are plenty of other good restaurants in Belfast.
