I opened an ISA online after being advised to do so by a representative at the Irthlingborough branch. They suggested that I come in now for assistance. However, when I arrived, I was informed that they couldn't see me until May and that I could visit other branches instead. This felt like a clear indication that they didn?t want to help me. Why tell me to come in just to turn me away?
The staff at Irthlingborough suggested I could manage the process online. I completed the online application and transferred my money, but according to customer service, I made the transfer incorrectly. They haven?t been able to assist me over the phone to resolve the issue, and now my funds seem to be missing, allot of funds!
I called the Irthlingborough branch again, hoping to reach a different representative, and the manager answered. I have dealt with him in the past and found him unhelpful; he often provides excuses rather than solutions. He claimed to have worked at Nationwide for over a decade, but he doesn't seem to understand the complaints procedure which gave the impression he did not want to take on a complaint.
When I asked him for an appointment, he stated that appointments are now being scheduled for June. It?s surprising that they can only offer appointments months away when most clients in Irthlingborough are long-time customers with established accounts, mortgages, and savings. It doesn't make sense for them to delay customers by three months for an appointment. No reputable company would make a small branch like this appointment-based, especially considering that many residents do not drive and they have businesses in the town.
The manager's excuse about a backlog of Irthlingborough customers needing advice on mortgages or to open savings accounts seemed unreasonable. I have used this bank for both business and personal needs on a weekly basis and have never seen anyone waiting to be seen in the back office. Most customers at this branch already have their banking needs in place. If Nationwide were a reputable company, they would be able to provide help for those in need; not sending a loyal customer over the age of 60, that doesn't drive, to a different town to get help with an ISA that could be resolved in a matter of minutes. I've been with Nationwide all my life, and where does it get you?

Popped in today to put a cheque in but I've never used one of the machines to do it. I mentioned this to the lovely lady on the counter and she grabbed the manager to show me how to do it. He was really nice and patient showing me what I need to do and was really thorough. As I left the lady behind the counter gave me a big smile.. it was a nice experience for an anxious customer. Lovely staff. Thankyou!

Most staff are fantastic. Shame the can't be open more with all the money they are making from our savings. It's only the the borrowers are making a fortune.

A very small branch, but if you need banking facilities, it saves a trip out of town.
