Popped in for a drink on Sunday afternoon and decided to have lunch. Despite being told everything was ?freshly? cooked, we doubt very much that was the case. We both had the roast beef, veg and Yorkshire pudding. Whilst the veg was acceptable, the beef was very tough and almost impossible to cut, the roast potatoes were NOT roast at all and seemed like they had been kept warm on a hot plate or in the oven which made them very hard to cut. The Yorkshire pudding, although very big, was dry and chewy. After complaining, we were given a ?freshly cooked? new meal which was not much better. Needless to say, we will not be returning. I could also add that it was £10.50 for a glass of wine which I think is extortionate.

Don't bother turning up, staff just stood around ignoring the massive que at the bar? Never seen anything like it ?

The Narrow Boat was an ideal halfway meeting place for family members from Nottingham and Oxford to meet up. The food was good, better than anticipated and the staff pleasant. However, my 26 year old daughter was refused a medium glass of wine with her meal as the waitress thought she was under 18. Unfortunately my daughter hadn't bought any ID with her and was therefore unable to verify her age. Although, within the licencing laws a 16 or 17 year old is allowed a glass of wine with a meal in the company of an adult. I was informed that The Narrow Boats policy is no alcohol at all for under18 year old, with or without a meal. Although as her mother I confirmed that my daughter was 26, but as the waitress had decided she was 17 she was not able to have a glass of wine with the rest of the family. My daughter felt this to be insulting that she should be treated like a child and not the adult she is

Good food, more of a veg serving would enhance the meal. Service good and attentive. Warm seating area and great views of the countryside.

We booked dinner there when we were on a canal boat holiday, lovely food, very dog friendly, great service. We liked it so much we went again on our way back and had another great meal. Highly recommended

When we visited this time I have to say it wasn't as good as before. Menu & food wasn't but the service was good.

The hotelier is a liar, a cheat and a theif. A horrible night ending with a faulty shower.
We tried to book 2 rooms, one for one night and one for 2. We were thinking of taking the dog and they say they are a pet friendly hotel. We tried to call the hotel, but no answer. We then booked the 2 rooms. Booking 1 a single room for 1 night and 2 a single room for 2 nights. We then emailed the hotel explaining that we will probably take the dog. The hotelier emailed us asking us to confirm whether or not we were taking the dog. The hotelier called us on the afternoon of the first night explaining that he could not offer a room that allows pets on the second night. Our reply was thats ok we will find another hotel for the second night. His response that the conditions meant that there would not be a refund for the second night as per his cancellation policy. As he could not provide a room there was no cancellation. This argument was received with a demented grin of a man who will gladly steal money from anyone. In short his hotel is a dive and his morals are in keeping with a world where everybody hates each other and is looking for an opportunity to scam somebody else. Avoid if you hate crooks.

Went for some food and though we do some sharing plates . Ordered a prawn fritter which when it came was no bigger than an ginger nut biscuit. Lemon and garlic chicken wings tasted plain and only 4 came. The chorizo and haloumi skewer was good but a little small. A portion of fries and 2 diet cokes and that was
£37. Portions need to be better for that money . Nice location but won't be returning as not value for money.

We stayed a night as we had an event nearby. The cottages are at back of car park at the back. Simply furnished but clean and fine for a night. We had lunch in the pub when we arrived and food was very good. Nice beer garden looking out over the canal and a nice walk along the towpath if you cross over the bridge.
