My experience in opening a new bank account at HSBC in Northampton was extremely frustrating. The customer service representatives are not very welcoming and i saw some interactions there which led me to believe that some of them may be discriminatory towards ethnic people. I am an international student from Canada, recently arrived in Northampton for my studies at the University of Northampton (UoN). Before coming to the UK, I had applied online for an HSBC bank account, but I received no response. Upon visiting the branch for the first time, they redirected me to reapply online, stating that the initial online application didn't go through. After submitting all the required documents online again, including my passport and a 'confirmation of enrolment' as proof of address, I waited for two weeks without any communication. During my second visit, they refused to accept my UK issued Biometric Resident Permit (BRP) as "proper" identification. On the third visit, they rejected my 'confirmation of enrolment' as proof of address, despite it being signed by the UoN's Chief Operating Officer and bearing the university's logo. They insisted on a student letter from the university, leading me to request one from the university which took 3 weeks to arrive. During my fourth visit, I faced an extensive 90-minute to 2-hour wait, prompting my request for an appointment for next time. However, the lady at the counter insisted she couldn't provide an appointment saying the next available one would be weeks away, so I continued my visits. On the fifth visit, a different staff member arranged an appointment within three days. Finally, on my sixth visit, I managed to open my bank account in about 30 minutes. This entire process was exhausting, and it was disappointing that a global bank like HSBC provided such inefficient customer service to me.

My fella had a account with them, and it was a basic account with NO OVERDRAFT AND NO CREDIT CARD, he lost his card and reported it lost straight away, with in hours his card got used online and contactless in different countries and the bank let it go ina OVERDRAFT that was not there, this happend a few times and they closed his account downand now hes struggling to get a bank account thanks to these idoitsinto

Excellent customer care, went to speak to a lovely lady at 4.28, dealt with ordering me a new card even though I said I could come back.. She insisted no she would help me.. Even after closing time she dealt with my problem.. EXCELLENT staff in this branch in northampton! Not like any of the other branches... Total customer care!! These ladies should work in ALL of your branches!!! Other staff in branches can learn ALOT from these ladies! 1 VERY happy customer ?

I went into the Northampton Branch and spoke with a lovely gentleman called Duncan Draper and he went over and beyond to help me. I cannot thank him enough. He was training a young lady Laura Abad and she was also very good. If she ends up half as good as Duncan she will be very good indeed.

Very poor service from HSBC. Staff were fairly helpful in the branch but overall extremely disappointed with a very amateur service.

I went to the branch today with issues unresolved for more than 2 months and was pleasantly surprised and like never before, I left with ALL issues solved.I'm sorry that for private data protection I cannot mention the name of the branch employee.+5 Stars.An really big Thank you.

I went to the bank with my friend who is a customer of HSBC to be greeted by the rudest staff I have ever came across . The manageress looked at us like we were vermin when she was talking to my friend we then went to a till and the cashier did the same . Thank god I don't use this bank , shameful behaviour .I would not recommend the HSBC on Abington Street Northampton unless you are prepared to put up with extremely rude staff.
