Only opens on select Sundays, visit the Pocklington Canal opposite, chat to the volunteers, walk a few kilometres and then cross the road and have a brunch.
Inside and outside seating in the home of a local family. Plenty of interest in the large garden, veg and fruit. The large mint bed fills the air with aroma.
Large teapots, fresh coffee and proper ice-cream.
,
You can park outside, but best to leave it at the canal head where the volunteers can keep an eye on it.
Good value and a very unique experience.

The Old Forge Tea Room, Cranford: Where Even the Corned Beef Hash Deserves a Standing Ovation ???
Forget fancy food trends and minimalist menus? The Old Forge Tea Room in Cranford is all about proper, comforting, belly-hugging goodness, served in a setting so cosy you?ll start mentally picking out wallpaper for your future cottage.
We dropped in recently and tucked into a brunch-time feast of homemade chilli and corned beef hash?and reader, we were not the same afterwards. In a good way.
The Food: Big Flavours, Bigger Portions, No Nonsense
Let?s start with the homemade chilli:
This wasn?t your usual ?mildly spicy, mostly beans? number?this was the real deal. Rich, hearty, with a proper depth of flavour and just enough kick to warm your soul without requiring a fire extinguisher. Served with rice and tortilla chips (because every chilli deserves a crunchy sidekick), it was comfort in a bowl with a little fiesta on the side.
Then came the corned beef hash?a dish that, when done right, is a thing of humble beauty. And oh, was it done right. Crispy-edged, perfectly seasoned, and packed with that glorious mix of corned beef, potatoes and onions that makes you want to write a love letter to whoever made it. Add a perfectly cooked egg on top? Now we?re in full food romance territory.
The Setting: Country Charm with Cake and Character
Inside The Old Forge, it?s all vintage touches, warm smiles, and just enough bunting to make you feel like you?ve arrived at a village fête run by Mary Berry and her very organised cousin. The staff are lovely without being overbearing, and the atmosphere is so relaxed you might accidentally stay for a second lunch.
Did We Mention the Cakes? ?
Yes, we?d already eaten. Yes, we were full.
Did that stop us from eyeing up the cake counter like kids outside a sweet shop? Absolutely not.
We may or may not have left with a slice of something homemade ?for later? (read: eaten in the car).
The Verdict: Feed Your Heart and Your Appetite ?????
The Old Forge Tea Room is a rare gem?a place where the food is honest, the portions are generous, and the vibe is somewhere between grandma?s kitchen and your favourite countryside café.
Five stars?plus a bonus one for the corned beef hash that made us seriously consider getting a loyalty card tattooed.
Go hungry. Leave happy. Return often.

Quiet country village location in the old blacksmiths forge building. Staff are welcoming and friendly, and the food and drink is first class, also competitively priced. Highly recommend, great place for breakfast, light lunch or afternoon tea.
