Sunday roast very poor. Vegetables hardly seen boiling water, roast beef more like cheap sandwich beef. Ordered the pate, cheap slice of pork pate. Chicken fillet was boiled and the stuffing was cheap stuffing balls. Certainly nothing home made.

I can honestly say this pub is a very pleasant suprise. From the outside it just looked like a dated old pub.
BUT the STAFF , SERVICE and FOOD are first class. I inadvertently ordered a dish to hot for my delicate palate and the staff resolved it 100%
The menu is fussion and not poncey but darn good food reasonably priced, this is central York.
Come hungry the portions are generous and leave room for pudding

Had a nice Sunday dinner the only down fall was the waiting time to be served our meal. We was waiting over 1 hour and the gravy could of been thicker as it was quite watery. The girls who served us though were lovely.

Me, my fiance and our cocker spaniel are Masons regulars due to the lovely friendly atmosphere and the cracking food. As big fans of seafood we've thoroughly enjoyed every plate we've ever had.
Being so impressed with the food I held my 40th birthday party in the lovely beer garden with a spread of Mason's-grade buffet food for my guests. It didn't disappoint!! Everyone talked about how next-level the food was...just as I predicted. The chef is a shy and retiring chap who makes the catering element what it is at the Masons. Give that man a pay-rise!!
Friends and family were very impressed with the gorgeous beer garden, the historic atmosphere inside the pub and the riverside views.
Lovely venue, brilliant staff and amazing food. What's not to love? Thank you for making my party so special Xx

Really good selection of food available on the menu, food was decent value for money and really nice quality with generous portions. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, live events in the evening (karaoke on a Saturday). Really impressed with this place.

Absolutely Fabulous! Went there with the family for dinner on our first night in York, purely as it was the nearest pub with food near our hotel. It was so good we made it our last Dinner in York too. The lamb shank was superb! The cheese cake (I had 2) and chocolate cake were delicious. Proper pub food served by lovely staff. If I'm ever in York again there's no way I won't be going to the Masons Arms!

We popped in here by chance and discovered the best steak and potato pie in all of York (and we have had MANY!!!) The others in the group ordered pizzas, which were quite large for the price, had excellent crust and just the right amount of toppings and sauce. The garden area was most lovely in July. If you are walking the walls and looking a a bite to eat near Fishergate, stop in here! Staff was very friendly and efficient.

I had the single best pork belly I've ever had the pleasure of eating.
From what I can tell the cut is slightly wider than what one can typically purchase from a butcher, which tells me that they have someone with a good head on their shoulders associated with their kitchens - likely they have a standing order with a/some butchers to have a proper cut for their pork bellies.
Was slightly drier than what I would usually make for myself, however, that is likely due to my eating outdoors and waiting a bit before eating - so it was of no fault of the kitchens.
Had a small taste of their sheperds pie, and I must say, that it was as if made by godly hands. With just one bite I could tell the cook had attained perfection.
It's a shame I have business elsewhere in a month's time, otherwise I would have made it my mission to try everything from here.

Was visiting York from Edinburgh for a couple of nights with my partner and our dog. Googled for dog friendly pubs and this popped up - had generally good reviews so thought we'd give it a visit. The menu was quite extensive for a pub so we figured it'd probably just be average food. The partner got their homemade steak and potato pie and I had one of their currys. The food was AMAZING. By far one of the best pies and the curry was better than most Indians we've eaten at. Would 100% recommend and would come back when we visit York next.

Second time in York and came here again for our first meal of the holiday. Had their Sunday roast and was absolutely epic can't fault it.

The pie chips and veg are fantastic here. Location is excellent being slightly away from town. I had a slight problem with their soft drinks pricing. £4.45 for half a fresh orange topped up to a pint with soda water. The equivalent in The Fox is £1.50 and the Golden Ball £3.00.

Tea time meal in the Masons Arms was absolutely beautiful, had pan fried seabass,
It is located on the south side of the city just outside the wall. I would recommend this pub for a meal and drinks .
