Weirdly lacks furniture. My executive room has two beds and one comfy chair. It we want to have a coffee in the room someone needs to sit on a bed like a youth hostel. I requested a second chair for the giant empty space where a chair obviously belongs and was rebuffed. At over 400 per night this is not acceptable.

Beautiful building with a significant historical aspect behind. Concierge, service, food and cleanliness at the highest level.

We booked for one night on a special occasion and the staff ensured we had a personalised and special stay. The hotel was very clean and imposing, with a deep history in York. The room was deceptively more modern than expected! We had a corner room with plenty of light from floor to ceiling windows on two sides of the room. Included were some complimentary accoutrements - Yorkshire Tea, Nespresso pods, some brownies and a couple of Harrogate Spa water. All very welcome in the morning! The bathroom had both a bath and a rainfall shower, with a heated floor!Wayne was especially a really attentive concierge and valet, who made our stay seem special. Highly recommend the stay and look forward to staying again in the future!

Had a wonderful stay in this beautiful hotel. the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was a suite (upgrade) which was amazing and huge!Jordie was very helpful and full of local knowledgewe ate in The Rise and the food was some of the best we had had. The duck dish was to die for and the breakfasts excellent and Lola the waitress we had both mornings was lovely. We were within close walking distance of all the shops etc so were able to enjoy all the sights over the period of our stay.Would definitely go again.Rooms: Our room was a suite, huge and luxurious with a few freebies too, a very pleasant stayNearby activities: There are many attractions close to the hotel within walking distance aswell as historical areas and scenic walks by the river. York ticks all the boxes for a good city break.Walkability: So close to many attractions and the shopping is brilliant no need for extra travel.Food & drinks: The Rise restaurant was delightful and the food delicious, staff very accomodating

From the minute we stepped through the wonderful imposing entrance to this hotel we ere treated like Royalty. Nothing was too much trouble. The bedrooms were beautiful with more than a touch of luxury. The beds were large and so comfy. The fridge was a godsend. We were celebrating our sister's birthday and the management left a lovely card and chocolates. Plus she got a free cocktail. The bathroom was a nice size and the underfloor heating was really appreciated. The spa was a calm oasis. The pool and jacuzzi were both wonderful. The whole hotel was absolutely spotless. All the staff, especially the concierge went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. The only downside was the breakfast. At £25 per head we would have expected full table service. However apart from a few special items, it was self service, including the toast. Unfortunately the food was only lukewarm, which was a pity. The continental selection had a plentiful selection though.Thank you so much for making our stay wonderful. We did feel like Royalty.

Wow! What a wonderful hotel. The staff, rooms and location are all fantastic. We loved the little touches like the York shortbread in the room each night, the doormen, and the personalised screens on the TV. Spacious, premium feel rooms with lovely, comfy beds. We can't wait to return.

This beautiful amazing hotel and the staff are amazing tooBut when we went in to the restaurant with no prices on the menu so when we got a bill for 113 pounds that was lot of money for cottage pie and. Blow of chips and pudding we did get a discount so it came to 88 pounds and the manager did give me 11 pounds back as wellI think they should be a menu for people with low budget it is the first time ever I have been to the grand as was my husband 50th brithday but we come at some pointBut big thank you to every one who was really good to me my husband
