I stated when I ordered, that I had IBS, and can?t have anything spicy, I ordered a chef special with kemanaan. Delivery quick, first mouthfuls ok then my mouth was burning, told they can?t do a mllder one! So I don?t believe you are cooking from scratch because you can make any meal milder, Greek yogurt, natural yogurt. So you are NOT doing anything from basic,?my usual Indian takeaway, I have been for 5 years,but currently closed due to renovations. Overall 98 they have accomadated my food requirements,,

Food was OK I guess, had better, had worse.
The chicken portions were large in the dishes, but the sauce was a bit watery.
Waited nearly 2 hours from placing the order to having the food delivered. Still think this place is the benchmark for the Makhani, but I have had better ones from The Indian Ocean before, which is disappointing.

Amazing service from start to finish. We?ve come here a number of times and will keep on coming back as the food is great and the service is always friendly and fast. Best Indian in York.

My score would have been a full 5* if it hadn't been for one of the waiters who must have asked us at least 5 times if we were ready to order our mains, even though he could see we were not finished with our starters.
I had to tell him in the end that I would let him know when we were ready. I know it was a Saturday and they need to turn tables but at least let people finish first.

Fabulous all round experience. Food was exceptional and service was attentive and precise with different waiters knowing exactly what we ordered and what we needed.
I had a Ghost Massala braving a very hot dish and was asked if I needed water or yogurt dip to cool, but chose beer.
Dish was flavorful and full of chillis, veg and artistry.
Kids had Korma and it was of the same caliber.
Breads were light naans and not greasy chapatis.
Not cheap (what is nowerdays) but exceptional in every way.

If I could have given this 0 stars, i would have!
Ordered food for delivery and have to say it has to be the worst Indian food I have ever eaten as a takeaway! The paneer butter curry tasted of nothing. Totally bland and even paired with rice and salad was still bland! I couldnt even finish it all despite my best efforts. Seems the chef clearly has no idea of how to use spices in curries. Absolutely shocking. Definitely don't waste your money here. They clearly don't care about the quality of food they are serving.

I?m really disappointed with the Indian Ocean and sadly for the second time. We made a reservation for Christmas Eve weeks in advance but on the evening there was clearly a problem with their booking system, they?d overbooked and we joined a queue of people who had all arrived for a table reserved at the same time.
What was really disappointing though was their customer service, or lack of it! The manager just busied himself with all the seated tables and ignored the problem, clearly hoping we would just go away, which we eventually did. There was no apology, explanation or offer of an alternative such as a rebooking for another night or a takeaway.
We left after 20 minutes of standing in the foyer, being ignored and feeling really let down by a restaurant we have been visiting for 10 years. Sadly won?t be going again.

Can?t recommend it highly enough, excellent in all ways. We often come to Acomb to eat here rather than elsewhere in York.

Two of us were placed at a table 2 from the kitchen door with delivery collection people charging in and out. Music was so.loud we couldn't hold a conversation without shouting. Our starter arrived before we had finished the popadom (we had one popadom each!) then we had to wait 40 minutes for our Main course while the takeaway deliveries were thundering past us. Main course was OK, but we asked to take home what we couldnt eat (we'd had enough of being there). I could not believe it when the waiter brought out the aluminium dishes and told us to put our food into them ourselves. I felt humiliated.
Will we go back?

Use to be nice. But I think they've got a new chef because it doesn't taste fresh any more. It tasted like curry from a jar!WILL NOT USE AGAIN sorry ?
