Hotel on the edge of the city - 10/15 minute walk to the centre. Plenty of hotels in this area. Wetherspoons is opposite alongside a Travelodge. Rooms are comfortable and well maintained, but views are not a feature. Service is good. This hotel is good for a city break in York or a business trip. It is not glamorous or pretty but a serviceable and comfortable hotel.

Would have given 4 stars for service but we had been to a show at the barbican and got back about 10.40. Wife went up to the room I wanted a drink so went to the bar. As I got there the bar man who was just putting a pint on the bar turned turned to me and said sorry we have stopped serving. I disappointedly accepted this and went over the road to witherspoons. I returned to the hotel about 12.00 and on entry there were 2 people stood at the bar with half full pint glasses talking to who I assume was the night receptionist. Very disappointing. If it hadn't been for the waitress at breakfast being excellent service would have got no stars. The room was spotless and bed very comfy.Rooms: SpotlessNearby activities: Close to the barbican and reasonably centralWalkability: GoodFood & drinks: Breakfast excellent extensive choice. Service at the drinks bar terrible.

Easy check in (early too which was a bonus) but booked room was supposed to be twin beds and was set up as a double, so had to get that resolved.Bathroom door was very difficult to open due to issue with handle. No extra cushions on sofa etc. Only 1 chair. Extremely small wardrobe (literally 40cm wide!)Comfy beds. Good location for the Barbican, which is why we were there.Only 1 very slow lift.

Exceeded expectations. Staff were excellent- both friendly and helpful. Food was surprisingly good (evening meal and breakfast) and room was clean and as you would expect. Set up and really happy to deal with dogs staying, allow them in the bar area. Would stay again, without question.

Hotel was nice and clean but was tricky as the lift was out of order and climbing four flights of stairs with a busted knee was not easy.

No Wi-Fi code upon booking in or wrote down in keycard leaflet. The rooms TV was tiny about 19 inches in screen size looked out of place on the rooms large main wall.Rooms: The Rooms air conditioning unit didn't work at all so steamed up the room very quickly causing the windows and mirrors to get dripping wet with bad condensation showing grimy handprints on the windows from previous customers. It was like sleeping in a tropical rainforest it was that humid the bedsheets stuck to you. Apart from that the rooms were clean although one towel to dry yourself off the size of a tea towel wasn't enough for an adult so I had to use my girlfriend's hairdryer to blow myself dry. The towels were also that soaked you could've slapped and stuck them on the wall. I had to use one to wipe the condensation away. I felt like a window cleaner by the end of our stay but left sparkling result's.Nearby activities: Located literally less than ten minutes walk from the city centre so all local shops and pubs close by depending whatever you want it's all near by so that's a plus. Plenty to see even if you have a good walk around browsing at all the shop's and walking down every cobbled street.Safety: The window should have been able to open wider for fresh air and ventilate the room to stop it from getting like a hot house steam pot.Walkability: Less than ten minutes walk from the city centre where you'll find all sorts Harry Potter and novelty souvenir shops.Food & drinks: The lobby / reception area is used on a night for the restaurant meals as the actual restaurant bit was / is always closed off before 9pm so we headed out for a meal instead as didn't want to feel like I was having tea on show in the reception where they book guest's in.Noteworthy details: Staff were courteous and friendly and welcoming when we checked in and were very attentive. There is no on site car park only a public one at the rear of the hotel up the side street which can get full depending on time and the day. Costs about £16 for 24hrs as they take your reg upon entry and calculate the price however long you've stayed which isn't bad plus has security cameras but not a total security guarantee. Shower gels and face wash is provided in the bathrooms and the shower was spot on with walk in tray. Plenty of three pin plugs available but not near the mirrors in the room and bathroom if you needed to see what you're doing. No curfew time was given when booking in as to what time they lock the main roller entrance revolving door but you just use your card key on the door to the right so no problem getting in. Also upon entering the elevator my nose detected that someone previously farted in the elevator spoiling our one night experience away.

Appalling. The room smells strongly of paint yet is dirty, stained, and in a poor state of repair. Window is nailed shut so can't get ventilation. The bar is freezing cold and the vents are blowing out cold air?! The silly little oil radiators make no difference. Despite being 1 of only 2 guests in the bar, I had to go to the counter to order because the only member of staff is too busy texting. Fire exit blocked by cars, I have reported it with photographic evidence to the local fire authority.

Nice hotel. Great location. Really good breakfasts at a reasonable price. Only negative was the size of the double bed which was definitely on the small side otherwise the rooms were great.

Perfect for using as just a room but it?s nothing more than that. The rooms both times I?ve stayed have been dirty, the keys lose their activation by the time you come back after a day out. Right opposite a weatherspoons & it?s noisy all night long even on weekdays! There was even footprints on the wall above 6ft high! Perfect location however and walking distance to everything. There?s a bus stop just outside too & a primark. If you need a cheap room and don?t mind noise or a bit of crumbs then this hotel is for you.
