It's like you timetravelled back in time 1000 years ago but you're able to sip your coffee and tea on the castle walls. Must visit place when doing a castle walk around York. Tasty scones and great coffee 9.4/10!

Very scenic location right in the walls, super pretty. Some nice sweet treats but very lil selection of actual food- just tosties and they?d ran out! Would say nice for a cuppa or some coffee but not a meal or anything.

My family thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon at the Gatehouse. It?s in a charming, historic building with seating options inside and outside (lovely views). My husband and I both had the cheese and ham toasty, which we agree tasted delicious. My husband?s pour over coffee was perfect and I enjoyed my flat white. My daughter had the hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, and she declared it to be the best cocoa of our trip?even better than the Dorchester! Also, the staff is friendly and kind. Now that we are satiated, we?re off to walk the city wall that the cafe is attached to.

I recently discovered a coffee shop in York that's truly one-of-a-kind. Located within one of the historic gatehouses of the city's wall, The Gatehouse Coffee is a spot that offers a unique blend of history and modern coffee comfort. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with the old stone walls adding a timeless charm. What makes it even more special is the view from the highest level, offering a panorama of the city. The coffee was exceptional, perfectly brewed and served with a smile. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy great coffee in a truly remarkable setting. ?

It was such a unique and enjoyable experience to visit. The building is hundreds of years old and so full of character and charm.
But as well as a notable location the food was delicious and the coffee was perfect. There was care in the preparation and professional, welcoming service.
We both were very impressed with our visit and will look forward to returning.
