Ordered a bacon and cranberry panini. When it came out it was just a warmed up baguette, not toasted at all. Not asked if I want skinny chips or fat chips or if I wanted any sauces or given a napkin. I had to ask for sauce and hunt for napkin, all while my food was going cold. Not good value or service, very disappointed

Miserable staff which goes nicely with the poor quality of food, poor cleanliness and cramped seating. I was under the misconception that this was meant to be a quality place to eat but was sadly mistaken and to top it off, the got food was served above a baby?s head. Terrible value for money so will make this my first and last visit

Despite being relatively busy on a December dinner time we had no problems finding a table. Good menu, with plenty of choice and tasty food i would definitely visit again. The staff here are really great everyone had a smile on their face and the customer service was excellent.

Very cramped, tables left uncleared for lengthy period, staff were very abrupt, terrible atmosphere. Food looked very unappealing and was very basic, lacking in flavour. Very much overpriced for the quality of it. I would not return and would certainly not recommend to anyone.

Went to the coffee shop for a light lunch with my partner and wish I never entered! Staff was abrupt and rude , tables were very close together and dirty . Food was nothing like the description on the menu and was very expensive for what it was .

Lovely lunch, good menu & decent sized portions. Staff all fantastic & managed the fact it was extremely busy. In particular the lovely lady helping guests to find tables & asking if people were ok. I will definitely return.

Not a great experience. Visiting anywhere with allergies is challenging but it took us three times to explain our order only for it to be 'rung upstairs' incorrectly. The advice on certain things wasn't correct either. We corrected the server yet again but somehow the food still came incorrectly! We then got a crumpet which somehow was burnt on one side and under done on the other side with two packets of butter on top of it, despite being told that butter was a categotic 'no go'. This happened in all our meals with the butter being placed on top. Whilst still in the packet it's not the point. Them items were missing and when questioned they were eventually brought and 'firmly placed on the table' without an apology. Not a great experience at all!

Many eating places were full as York was bustling as it was a warm day. Browns seemed popular with all outside tables full so we ended up inside. Tables are very close together. One has to order at the counter and then food is brought. Menu sounded decent. We were told there would be a 30 minute wait for food. Husband ordered a prawn Marie Rose salad. It was more of a prawn Marie Rocket and chopped red onion combination with a smattering of chopped cucumber and tiny amount of cherry tomatoes. Definitely not worth the price. While waiting, we noticed how grimy the white pelmets around the tables were and I wiped them down with wet wipes. It really needs a deep clean as other reviewers have noted. Wish we had read the reviews before stopping for lunch there. By all accounts, it was once decent and used to be waitress service.

The cafe was a bit plain, needs flowers on the tables and pictures on the walls. Didn?t have much character. Enjoyed the drinks, but the place itself didn?t have a nice vibe. Would be better more welcoming.

We only visit York occasionally and, over the years, have gone to Browns. Gosh, how it has gone downhill !!! We thought that the cafe was quiet.....we soon found out why. I ordered a burger (with chips). That's what I got but I didn't expect JUST a cheap burger in a cheap bap. No 'trimmings' with it and OVER £11 !! One of my daughters (a vegetarian) ordered a cheese sandwich at £7.50. What she got was four small portions of brown bread with a minimum of grated cheese in them. My daughter commented that the four pieces was akin to what you would expect to find in a small no, a very tiny!!, child's lunchbox. This apalling excuse for a "sandwich" (I use the word 'sandwich' loosely) cost £7.50 !!!! Oh, by the way, we had to remind our "waitress" that we had been waiting for our 'food' for a long while even though the cafe was half empty. The next minute another member of Staff came over and said "she doesn't understand what you mean" !!!!!. At this I honestly felt that it was "Fawlty Towers"2023" style!! To be fair, one of my party of four had the "roast". That was "O.K." The "meal " for four of us came to over £50 !! The three female members of my family/party then visited the ladies toilets. Their comment was that they were " not clean" and water all over the floor.

Very disappointed at the standard of this Coffee shop. Scones were abysmal. Rock hard crumbling mess. Coffee weak+stone cold. No ambiance at all in the coffee shop. It actually lets Browns Store down.

Big shout out to Shirley who was very accommodating & pleasant even got my tray & sauces for me. The bacon & egg are of high quality & a tasty breakfast.

Called to Browns today for a scone and a coffee. The food was really nice and the prices were really good. Only down side was the way the lady who worked behind the counter spoke to her colleague. The man had given a bacon sandwich to the wrong person and the lady behind the counter was really rude to him in front of the other customers and staff that worked there. I felt really embarrassed for him.
