Very disappointed at the standard of this Coffee shop. Scones were abysmal. Rock hard crumbling mess. Coffee weak+stone cold. No ambiance at all in the coffee shop. It actually lets Browns Store down.

Called to Browns today for a scone and a coffee. The food was really nice and the prices were really good. Only down side was the way the lady who worked behind the counter spoke to her colleague. The man had given a bacon sandwich to the wrong person and the lady behind the counter was really rude to him in front of the other customers and staff that worked there. I felt really embarrassed for him.

Been twice, served by a lovely waitress failed to get her name! But blonde and young lady, she had such lovely customer service and was nice to be greeted with a beaming smile! So thank you so much for making us feel welcomed! Food is a little over priced but is lovely!

Food was really tasty & hot but slightly on the pricey side and the place could do with a good deep clean. Probably wouldn't return.

Stopped in for a coffee/tea break and a look around the department store. The scones looked lovely with lots of cream and jam however on tasting it, it was hard and cold (like it had been frozen). Friends had a cheese scone and a alice of orange and passion fruit cake which were better. Found it a bit expensive too. As for the department store (and I've been in many), it was very expensive. Followed the signs for the toilets on 2nd floor only to find that they were not accessible for disabled. The disabled toilet is on the ground floor and is not signposted! If you are wheelchair bound, the disabled toilet is not actually accessible if you are alone. The door to access the corridor where the toilet is needs to be pushed open and pulled open when you want out. The toilet itself was disgusting with no toilet paper, no hand towels and an awful smell which I think was coming from the nappy bin.

Soft fluffy scones, plenty of jam and cream. Very friendly helpful staff. Would certainly go again when next in York

Lovely to be seated outside on warm sunny day, very pleasant service and not long to wait, although we just had toasties and prawn sandwiches, bread very fresh and prawns delicious.very enjoyable.

The cafe is overpriced, but you expect that given the name. A member of staff wearing such a low skirt to impress the male staff? Inappropriate. Cobwebbs and spiders yuk. I guess after covid we forgot cleaning habits.

Up and out bright and early on a freezing cold Wednesday morning my twin brother Stephen and I dropped into Browns and what a pleasant experience we had. A really nice cafe, lovely decor and furnishings, lots of seating options and housed in a beautiful building,a great cafe indeed. We were greeted and seated ,we ordered a coffee each, these were served steaming hot,we just kicked back and planned out the day ahead while sipping our coffee's. From the first sip till the last sup you can tell they use quality ingredients in their coffee and take great pride in the coffee they serve,it was just so good being in such a great cafe enjoying a quality coffee. We really enjoyed our coffee's in here before we moved on and for a first time visit to Browns Teahouse we had a great time. Browns Teahouse is easy to locate along Davygate. Opening hours are; Monday tonSunday, open from 9.30am. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

On entering I was advised there would be a 30 minute wait for hot food. This was disappointing to hear but I decided to stay. I stopped a waiter in passing and asked how I place my order. He took it for me and it was served about 15 minutes later which was an unexpected surprise. I feel that if I didn?t take this opportunity I would have waited longer. The food was gorgeous. During my time I was witnessing the customer service and was surprised to hear the manageress asking the staff (who were very friendly) not to let anybody else have a table as the kitchen staff were struggling to keep up with the orders. As the majority of diners were elderly, I did not think this was the right way to handle the situation. Why would you keep people standing at the door when there are clean, free tables? I?m sure they would rather have waited for their food sat down than standing. I would have filled the tables and only kept people standing at the door when they were full. I would also have taken a note of the table numbers that new diners sat at and then take their orders in order of arrival. It was just too chaotic for the poor junior staff. I would definitely visit again but hope to witness better customer service.

After another trip into York, to have coffee and a chat with my sister, Brown's is the only place we like to meet up.The friendly greeting from Shirley and her staff, the new seating ,and wall lights are fabulous, which makes the whole place a great clean and bright, just right for some great food ,and coffee, xx
