After buying our car from a Renault Main dealer we were aware that services could be carried by non Renault garages. After a service by our local garage they were unable to clear the display on the dashboard so nievely my wife rang Universal at Whitby to have it removed.
The original quote was £32 - £50 + vat. We arranged to have it done and took the car in for 10am. After it was booked in we walked away and observed from a distance. The owner came out and moved the car to a different position, sat in it for 4 MINUTES then went back inside.
No further attention was paid to the car.
When I went to pay I was told it was £50.40 inc vat. I must confess I was not happy and said so only to be told its my garage and I will do what I want. Either pay or you won't get your car back.
I was also told never to go there again even for warranty work.
The Gentleman has a very aggressive attitude and because my wife booked the car we feel totally ripped off.
Please be aware if you use this garage.

We were on holiday in Whitby and had tyre pressure issues. The reception staff and the mechanic were so kind and checked out the issue straightaway and gave us great help and reassurance. Highly recommended.

Having dealt with Universal Garage for a number of years and always have had exceptional service i cant understand why a customer would only give them 1 star? did they have a bill to pay? you cant please everybody.

Helped me out by plugging the nail in my tyre on the spot. The other 3 garages I?d tried couldn?t fit me in but the man that dealt with me at Universal looked at my car straight away and couldn?t have been kinder. Thank you so much!

So very helpful. We are on holiday in Yorkshire a long way from home when a warning light flashed on they put on diagnostic machine and cleared giving us peace of mind. Thank you excellent service.

Can?t recommend these guys enough, snapped our exhaust down pipe on the Motorhome and they found the part and fitted it next day whilst we enjoyed Whitby, allowing us to continue our round the U.K. trip ? Awesome job Ivor and the team ???

Was visiting Whitby for a short break when as we were preparing to leave, my car threw up a power steering fault. In the panic, we took the car to this garage in hope for any help we could get. With no hesitation, the gentleman at reception was quick to help us and we were able to set off back home with no problems in no time. Cannot thank you enough for your help, we really appreciate it!

I have always had excellent service from this garage. We have had several cars from them and they always do all the servicing and MOT. I've always been asked before they do any extra work

Well this 1 star is definitely to much I'm so disappointed with the customer service turned up tonight to buy the car I won on ebay to find out there was more damage than stated in the post and the man was so rude and asked me (what didnt I understand about cash on colection ) we are in the middle of a global pandemic . After being told over the phone bank transfer was ok so rude I cant even put in to words PLEASE dont go to this garage on your own luckily I had my husband and brother with me today but definitely not a nice man

I am so disappointed in the service I received that one star seems too high. They had my car for 8 weeks and 1 day. They diagnosed the fault within a week but got the wrong part 3 times. For a Renault specialist, I find this a bit of a joke. They never gave me updates, it was always me chasing them. Elizabeth on reception is very abrupt (funnily enough, she's given the business 5* on Google reviews- bit biased). They then took it upon themselves to do the MOT, without informing me. I only found out by dropping by on the off chance they'd have an update for me. I asked them to call me BEFORE any work was carried out, yet carried out all of the MOT work without informing me. The price they gave me was over £100 more than Whitby Tyres & Exhaust which is on the same industrial estate. Take my advice, taking your car to Universal Garage really isn't worth the stress and hassle.
