The Whitby lifeboat station was one of the earliest to be established in 1802 and the station was taken over by the Institution in 1861. Over the years there have been four lifeboat stations at Whitby; the Whitby old No 1 (west side), closed 1934, Upgang (1865-1919), Whitby No 2 (east side), closed 1954 and the present station Whitby (motor) opened in 1919.There are two craft currently on station at RNLI Whitby, a Trent Class all-weather lifeboat & a D-Class inshore lifeboat. Also, a physical upgrade of the present boathouse substructure & new berth was completed in Sep-2006.

If you go make shore you go to the opposite side of the river and visit the rnli shop it has a museum at the back and there both well worth a look and help out by buying something ?

Wow! If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would! My Wife and I visited during an Open day. Being big supporters of the RNLI, we went down to see what was going on, and we were extremely thankful we did.We was met by one of the many fantastic crew at the station (didn't get their name - Sorry!) And was offered a look around their Trent class Lifeboat. Thinking that we might have just got to go on the deck would have been enough for us, but the access we had was incredible! The Lifeboat's mechanic gave us a FULL tour of RNLB George and Mary Webb, from the top driving position high up on the boat, to the engine room in the bowels of the vessel, and everywhere in between! We didn't want to get off!I've said it before, the RNLI are a fantastic organisation, with fantastic volunteers, doing fantastic things, and deserve all the support they get, and more!Thank you RNLI Whitby!

Such a great charity to support , we have purchased many things in the lifeboat shop . Today I spent the day on the beach with my son , I cannot compliment the lifeguards enough they were really keeping a close watch and it is so good to see , 1 lifeguard named Ben was actually in the water around 3pm , paddle boarding around keeping watch over all the younger ones , it was a real safe place to be . Cannot thank him enough .

Proud to have served as a member of Whitby Lifeboat crew. Still an amazing team to this day.

Open Lifeboat station where one can go onboard the vessel, George and Mary Webb, the 14 metre Trent class lifeboat, that serves the area. For those who take interest in boats, the vessel represents a fine technical achievement in all weather boat construction. For those more interested in the institution, the lifeboat house is also accessible, where one can meet the crew when they are present.
