“The Whitby lifeboat station was one of the earliest to be established in 1802 and the station was taken over by the Institution in 1861. Over the years there have been four lifeboat stations at Whitby; the Whitby old No 1 (west side), closed 1934, Upgang (1865-1919), Whitby No 2 (east side), closed 1954 and the present station Whitby (motor) opened in 1919.There are two craft currently on station at RNLI Whitby, a Trent Class all-weather lifeboat & a D-Class inshore lifeboat. Also, a physical upgrade of the present boathouse substructure & new berth was completed in Sep-2006.”

“I love this shop because it has a look and feel of shops from my childhood. The street has other such shops. This shop is run by some lovely welcoming volunteers who are genuinely pleased when you find something you really want. I bought some new games for a kids group and they were really happy that they were going to a good home. There are clothes and bric a brac. The stock of books is good and they often have older books which I find fascinating.I dont mean expensive first editions but stuff you remember from years ago and enjoy reading again. The area and the shop are well worth a visit.”
