Fantastic welcome from landlord stopping in for a midday half. Utterly uspoiled traditonal pub in one of the most spectacular and remote areas of the Yorkshire Dales. The beer garden is one of the finest in the U.K, with hill views and beautifully kept flower beds on all sides.
The only comparison to something this well-preserved is The Birch Hall Inn (Beck Hole) in the North York Moors.

This is a truly special pub, full of character and charm. I enjoyed an excellent pint of Theakston Best, paired with a homemade stew. The landlord was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The beer garden was a lovely bonus, spacious and inviting. A memorable visit all around.

Proper Yorkshire beer pub and hospitality

What can you say about this place - it's just a beautiful moment captured in time. If you want a truly original Yorkshire pub in a beautiful little village, this is your target. The landlord is an absolute salt of the earth - what a cracking human being, lovely to talk to and plenty of stories to match. He's just stuck to what he's always wanted and loves - good beer and great hospitality. I really want to get a lock in whilst the snow is piled up outside, that'd be fun!

I wanted to pop in to see what it was like as me and my partner was going to see scar house reservoir but unfortunately the pub was closed I loved the tiny village and thought it was so cute the drive on the way is so spectacular with some unbelievable views such a nice cosy little village just ashame the pub was closed at the time, I was gutted

What a place. Yes, it?s stepping back in time but to a time where people are friendly and interested. Bruce is real character, full of Yorkshire charm and wit. The Theakstons was amazing and the food hit the spot after a morning?s walk. Don?t go for glamour and sophistication (there?s plenty of that elsewhere in the Dales) but do go for slice of life you won?t experience anywhere else in modern Britain! If only more places were like this.

Bruce is a legend. He took care of us all from Canada! Best beer garden. Best cheese toastie.
