Friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere. Games to play while you drink a great selection of ales or wine around a warm open fire. Lovely home cooked pub grub. Highly recommended and dog

Just stayed at this traditional pub for two nights. Lovely warm, comfy room. Pub has flagstone floors and two fires. Barman Albert was great. Chatty and welcoming. John and Dawn served us a fab breakfast. Serves local beer from Helmsley Brewery amongst other breweries. Very competitive prices. If you are looking for traditional, this is a great place to visit or stay.Rooms: Three bookable roomsNearby activities: Good location for walkingFood & drinks: Good value

We had a very pleasant stay here for a weekend early October. The room was exceptionally clean. The bed was amazingly comfortable. We only had a chance to have their breakfasts at the time as dinners were not available at the time. As I see from more recent reviews it sounds like the dinners are wonderful! Next time we come John and Dawn! The breakfast was superb! John and Dawn were amazing hosts and were very helpful and accommodating in every way! This was our first time in the UK. Thanks again,Pamela and Howard from Canada

This is an amazing village pub with roaring fires and lovely food. We stayed 2 nights and ate in the pub both nights. Very good value for the quality. The locally brewed Helmsley pale ale was just £3.90 a pint with some great pub grub - Fish & Chips with tartar sauce £14.95 or pie and chips the same. I had the F&C's the first night and the turkey ballotine with creamed Brussel sprouts and fondant potato the second night. High end master chef productions and the puddings were fab - the custard tart (crème Brule) style with ginger ice cream was a knock out and only £7.95. This is a gem of a place in a lovely setting. Andy and Dawn the owners are amazing and Albert who works at the bar cant do enough to make the guest experience wonderful. Plus all the locals are super friendly and all dogs are welcome too.

Wonderful place to stay with outstandingly good food and comfortable rooms. I recommend everything on the menu, in particular the custard tart with gingerbread ice cream on the festive menu.

Booked dinner and overnight stay here, as we were going to visit Castle Howard. We received a warm welcome from Albert the barman and we were shown to our rooms, which were cosy, spotlessly clean and had lots of nice touches. We had dinner there that night and met John our host. Food was excellent, drinks were reasonably priced and the inn just has a great atmosphere filled with lots of locals. After a very comfortable night, we then enjoyed a fantastic breakfast before we headed off. Would absolutely recommended here for a stay, food and drinks and we hope to return again.

Stayed at the White Horse Inn with my wife on the eve of the Yorkshire Marathon. Amazing little Coutry Inn situated in a very picturesque location. Hosts were fantastic, and the room was perfect. Probably the most comfortable bed I've slept in away from home and the pub downstairs was very welcoming. We both enjoyed chatting to the friendly locals whilst tucking into our evening meal in front of a roaring fire. With a very early start planned on Sunday morning, I wasn't expecting breakfast, but the hosts opened the kitchen early especially for us, which was much apprecieted. I then went on to smash a new Marathon PB, fuelled on poached eggs, toast and coffee. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a warm Yorkshire hospitality, tasty food and drink, and a comfortable night's sleep.

What a fabulous, friendly, cosy little Inn the White Horse is! No 'gastro pub' makeover here thankfully- and all the better it is for it too. Nice and original, with a crackling coal fire burning in the old grate on a cold Yorkshire night. Lovely local beer - Howardian Gold - and the food was really something special. I understand they have a new young chef - who should be very proud. We had dinner here twice in one week ... absolutely delicious fresh chicken liver pate with a superbly well dressed side salad, the perfect steak and ale pie with shortcrust pastry and real gravy - and fish and chips cooked to perfection... the crispest batter, well seasoned mushy peas as they should be, with home made tartare sauce too, no sachets here, yay! Believe me, this is some of the best 'pub' food I have ever had - in fact, I have had countless Michelin star meals over the years that haven't impressed me as much! Last but not least, we were warmly welcomed by John the owner (a genuinely lovley man!) and his team too - I felt very at home here, and I sincerely wish this place every success - it deserves it.

Booked two rooms for ourselves and daughter plus granddaughter whilst visiting Ampleforth College. Albert, the barman, greeted us and was extremely friendly and helpful. Both our rooms were beautifully presented with comfortable, clean bedding and towels. Complimentary water and home made biscuits plus milk in the fridge were very welcome. The usual pie night was unavailable owing to a family funeral however a table was booked for us at the other village pub, two minutes walk away. (Separate review). After a very restful night we had the opportunity to meet the hosts and enjoy the most amazing full English breakfast made with quality ingredients. We?ll definitely be back and hope to enjoy the evening menu too next time. Large car park at the rear always a bonus.
