Pleasantly situated in the market place thirsk this takeaway restaurant is extremely popular with good outside sitting area loverly upstairs restaurant and some inside sitting places downstairs absolutely delicious fish and chips also does ice creams in the takeaway at front of building nice pleasant staff delicious experience

Our first trip to Thirsk and across the road from our hotel was this Chop shop.
Yorkshire chip shops have a good name, so gave it a try.
We did enjoy it although I would not give it 5 stars it was ok.
Fish was nice a bit too much batter for me.
Staff very friendly and nice.
Not much seating area, but benches outside.

Called in today, sat in cafe upstairs, it was lovely and cool. Ordered regular haddock and chips for me and chicken burger and chips for my wife as she is not keen on haddock. Food was lovely, but why oh why serve my haddock, chips and mushy peas on such a small plate, almost half the size of my wife's plate. I did mention this to the young girl that took our payment and explained that that was the reason there was some food spilt on the floor. I can never understand why in some restaurants and cafes seem to cram food onto small plates, possibly to make it look a bigger meal, but it would have been so much easier with the same amount on a dinner plate.

I came here a year ago and it was 5 stars across the board. This time it was very disappointing.
The chips tasted odd, perhaps it was the potato variety, and the plate was very greasy. The fish was ok but last time it was excellent.
My 3 year old granddaughter who at 2 years old had eaten practically all of a child?s fish only managed a couple of bites this time.
So to sum up; if there?s nothing else try this place and you might be lucky otherwise don?t as you might get a not so good day.

Used the takeaway service, lovely and friendly, piping hot food and so glad to see they use cardboard boxes quality, and absolutely super fish and chips

Ordered fish and chips with mushy peas and asked to wait for fish to finish frying. I took a seat, when the fish was out the fryer they continued to serve others who arrived after me seemingly to forget I was there. Fish orders handed out till I stood up. When I got home I had no peas. Negative experience of service after a long day.
