I have been visiting the old oak for about 10 years, a number of times per year. Unfortunately my experience on this occasion was extremely poor.
To start with, I ordered 3 fruitshoot drinks for my 3 young children, they appeared a strange colour on being brought to the table. They were out of date by 3 months. The waitress apologised as the whole batch was out of date, instead offering us some cordial. Unbelievably in one of the glasses was a small piece of degraded rubber which appeared to have fallen from the tap on making the drink. I only noticed as I was decanting the cordial into my childs cup aged 18 months.
The food was not up to the usual high standard that I have enjoyed here previously, perhaps this being due to a large amount of customers and it was a Sunday. The pie was very poor.
On receiving the bill, we were offered no discount on the cordial by way of an apology, in fact overcharged for £15 for desserts. The overcharge was rectified when it was highlighted.
On paying the bill I noticed that the fruit shoots were still for sale. The staff member said she hadn't had time to remove them from the fridge, 1 hour 30 minutes after the problem was highlighted. Pretty basic hygiene as there were other children in the pub, why would you run the risk of an error.
The old oak has always been consistently brilliant over the years however the quality has dropped and there were a catalogue of errors.

Called in here before going to Thirsk races based on the reviews when searching for somewhere nearby. We weren?t disappointed!
Husband had ham, egg and chips and I had the homemade chilli - both were absolutely delicious and good value for money. The whole menu sounded lovely and a lovely Friday lunchtime atmosphere too. We will certainly return next time we?re back in the area and would recommend. Just gutted we were so excited to tuck in I forgot to take a food photo!

We went to the Old Oak Tree for dinner.
Arriving to the (on Sun- and Holidays recommended) booking, we were seated quickly. The service was fast, friendly and attentive. The food is fresh and very tasty, with great variety. From fish to meat, you can get anything here.
The Cheese and Bacon Burger was a bit dry, you definitely need some Ketchup or other sauce here, the personal will gladly bring you some for free. All other dishes were really tasty.

The food (dinner and breakfast), accommodation, service and ambience were all of the highest order. This was my first time at The Old Oak Tree, but it certainly won't be my last - I was here for the racing, but this was the biggest winner of my visit!
Rooms: Every comfort provided - the owners have kitted out the rooms with great care, attention and love.
Nearby activities: South Kilvington is a short distance from the lovely market town of Thirsk, home to a beautiful and historic racecourse.
Food and drinks: Delicious food and a good selection of drinks, not least for real enthusiasts like me!

Godon Ramsey gives good advise, do less well. So many choices and notably the food, salmon and sausages were long before cooked. Gravy was gloop and had a vinegar taste. Spinach was stewed. Vegs were almost right....a portion for 1 shared.
Went here because a local said was best around. Well how bad can the rest be
Oh belly buttons showing on serving staff isn't a good look but the manner of them was very good
