Visited for a catch up with an old friend, OLD being generous?
GM and the staff were great, waitress behind the bar was lovley and always had a smile and regularly checks if you need anything. Didnt catch her name but definitely needs a pay rise
Had the steak sandwich, hats of to the chef, it was delicious.
Stayed the night and the rooms are fantastic and affordable.

Came here for a meal yesterday evening and it was lovely!! The staff were all so friendly, and the food was amazing :) The brownie especially was the greatest brownie I've ever had, and I've never heard so many options for ice cream at a restaurant!
10/10 ;)

The pub was empty, probably due to its poor location. Can honestly say I wasn't impressed with the food. All going to confirm why it has been so long since we last visited.

Spent 2 nights here with my 2 children in a family room. Room was spacious enough for 3 boys and Immaculately clean. The rooms could honestly do with a refurb but as this is a chain restaurant/hotel I will not be marking my score down as it's not the fault of the manager.
The manager of the property (Anthony) was fantastic. He was attentive the entire weekend and nothing was an issue or too big of a problem if I requested. His staff are also a credit to him. Steph, Paul, Lauren and Josie were amazing. Always smiling and I never got to the bottom of a drink before being asked if I wanted a refill. Thank you for a wonderful weekend. Will definitely return.

Whilst service at breakfast was good very attentive the day after we checked in but thats the only positive I can say.
We booked a family room 3 children youngest one is 3 and doesn't need a spareroom as my sister was told few weeks before her wedding we require an extra room, baring in mind these booking were comfirmed November/December and she would have advice them amount children on booking.
Anyways I'd already arranged with my mum who was staying at same place could she have one of my children in same room as her prior to the visit, we had driven 2 hours 30 minutes to check in and the manager attitude towards me and my children was disgusting questioning where is my 3 child staying at this point the bride had to step in and explain one children staying with our mum that she then asked what room is she in and wanted my mum name (my sister had confirmed all these on booking) and I certainly don't appreciate after a long drive to be greeted like I was.
Following to this we sat down in area reserved to bridal party and two drinks later for me to witness my sister stressed out as same manager then pulled my sister to one side accusing one guests of bridal party smoking weed in rooms and advising she'll be charge for entire floor to be cleaned even rooms not party of bridal party.
I'm sorry not only do you need to be sure this was the bridal party, you need to be absolutely certain! You caused unnecessary upset to both brides to find out there's other guest on that floor not part of the bridal party! And no apology either!
Not to mention before 11pm we was rudely told to clear off to our rooms as they need to set up for morning at this point there was about 8 of us trying to finish our drink's.
The beds were ok but room was a bit warm, overall average stay with better customer service in the morning, I suggest approaching guests diplomatically rather than blunt response we had.
Whilst I appreciate the fire safety regs this issue should have been squeshed prior to turning up on night especially when I have 3 children all wanted to rest.

We only went to the pub, not the hotel, so can't really comment, but the pub is lovely and the service is very good. We only had a sandwich and a cup of tea, the young barman was very friendly and helpful. Great place to stop off on the way to Scarborough.

Whilst holidaying at Runswick Bay we decided on a trip to Butterfly World and spotted The Cross Keys on the way there, so on the way back we decided to pop in for a meal, which I'm glad we did. We were greeted and seated with pleasant ease & banter. After checking the menus, I chose the wild mixed grill consisting of a venison stake, a duck leg, and a wild boar sausage, homemade coleslaw, fried egg, & what I would call potato wedges, but are labelled as chips. The meal was excellent ? regards to the chef & kitchen staff. Mum had a lamb shank shepherd's pie, which surprised as it was a complete lamb shank complete with bone topped with mash & cheese. She devoured the whole plate full, which is the best recommendation going, since she growing older her appetite has lessened, so for her to finish means the food was superb ? We were looked after by Jimmy, who was brilliant and expertly handled my sister, who's humour is as dry as the Sahara and can seem spiteful & bitter at time. He took her in his stride and helped to make our visit pleasurable & memorable. Jimmy your a star ? The only downside was their location, which is in a great location off a major road, but could be sign posted better as it's slightly hidden away. We originally drove past it, but it was well worth the loop back. Also note the entrance is to the rear of the building, with parking to the rear as well as the side. We did notice a couple of cars drive into the emptier side car park and decide not to stay as the car park was nearly empty. Don't make that mistake. Park and go in. You won't be disappointed.
Nearby activities: Butterfly world is a beautiful hothouse filled with orchids, tropical plants, koi carp and beautiful butterflies. A great place to take a break, breath, and enjoy the beauty of our planet. It's small but it's not to be rushed. They even have a small reptile, insect and meerkat displays. Well worth a slow unrushed hour of your time.

Great no nonsense hotel pub. Staff who served us were really friendly and helpful.
Rooms: Rooms are clean, tea and coffee and a kettle supplied. Bed was large and comfortable. Good quality for a budget stay.
