We went to this pub for a meal after a long day walking the Cleveland way. Ordered food waited an hour .. told the food was being plated up .. waited another 15 mins and told that they are very busy although the empty tables told a different story. Food was mediocre at best and very small portion ?no real apology. We were going to go for breakfast but think we will give it a miss.

We dined there tonight. Hubby had the sirloin steak and it was a big peice served with homemade onion rings, mushrooms, tomato chips and peas. He loved it. I had the Ham salad and it was the best salad I have ever had in a pub. There was so much stuff with it!! Ham,egg, coleslaw, beetroot, lettuce cucumber, tomato, peppers, red onion, spring onion, grapes, orange slides and the best homemade chips. Fantastic value and totally stuffed!!

A very friendly B+B, with a great vegan breakfast. The room was lovely. I knocked off a star for location because I would have liked to be down in the heart of the village near the sea, but it's a small point and the exercise I got walking up and down the hill probably did me good.

Avoid ? don?t stay here
We had an extremely disappointing stay at the Captain Cook Inn. Aside from being tired, not particularly clean and in need of refurbishment, it?s appallingly and unprofessionally run. Back in March, I booked a family room (direct, via their website) for a stay in June at a cost of £150. When we arrived we were shown to a double room with one bed (rate: £100) and told that this was our only option as the hotel was otherwise fully booked. The manager was off but the duty manager admitted this was unacceptable and offered to lay out a camp bed in the room. Since we were tired after a day?s walking along the coastal path, and there are very few accommodation options in Staithes, we decided to stay. I asked for the £50 we had overpaid to be refunded but was told that I had to contact a third party for this to be actioned.
Checking the terms and conditions after our trip, I discovered that this is untrue ? the accommodation is solely responsible for delivery of accommodation services and if it fails to honour a booking, the liability for any price differential lies with them.
In the weeks since our stay I have tried numerous times to get in touch with the hotel, by phone and by email, but phone calls go straight to answerphone message I?ve had no response by email. Very poor.

We had a takeaway meal for 4 people and it was great value for money. My gluten free Parmo was the best I've had!! Highly recommend!!

Absolutely amazing service and food! We were so well looked after by everyone, I have never left a review before but felt I had to as the owners and all the staff were just amazing and couldn't do enough for us. We had sat outside as we have a big bonkers staffie but the wind got up and they came to tell us there was a table tucked out the way and it was perfect. The portions were huge, it was amazing value and the food was equally amazing as the service!
