Food is fantastic, you arrive to a warm welcome and the pub has a wonderful atmosphere. The homemade tiffin at the end of the meal was the perfect finish.

When researched on line for a lunch visit, it said dog friendly amd even showed pictures of a dog inside the venue. We traveled some diatance to get there. However, we arrived to find signs on the door saying no dogs allowed. Furthermore we were told we could sit in the beer garden (in January) where all of the tables eventhough under a shelter were soaking wet. I think the website needs to be updated stating dogs only welcome in the outside spaces. We could not stay and eat and had to find somewhere else involving further travel to have lunch

This is a great location, however comes up as dog friendly and it is not! It has no dog signs everywhere. we were pointed in the direction of the beer garden with the dog which would be fine however all seats and everything were damp so we ended up leaving and finding somewhere else instead.

Had a three night stay at the Blacksmiths Arms last week and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. There are only three bedrooms and we had a very comfortable en suite room overlooking the church opposite. The food was excellent, as would to be expected, since the pub is owned by Ali Moran, who is a talented chef. The pub is an ideal base to go off exploring the moors or going further afield to places like Whitby.

Driving down the hill into Lastjngham we were impressed by the beautiful countryside and astounded that we?d never been into the village before , it?s quite charming and a lovely part of North Yorkshire. The pub is quite perfect and fits the landscape perfectly .. it?s warm and inviting , has various cosy rooms , and has TT Landlord on draught which always gives me the impression an establishment knows what they?re doing . The menu is quite simple , wholesome dishes , meat and fish selections and all are quite astonishingly reasonably priced . The pub feels welcoming when you walk in , we both had the homemade steak pie which was terrific and shared a Brie starter .. the accompanying veg and potatoes were very generous in portion and we left very full ! In description I?d liken it to a gastropub without the pretentious indulgence that identifies the term these days . It?s a nice spot to take the family and we will visit again soon with the kids and grandkids . It?s harder and harder to find new places we like these days and this is certainly one of them . Highly recommended.

After seeing very good reviews we all chose Chefs Fish Pie which was described as topped with a Cheddar Mash. Comparing experiences afterwards we had too little fish and too much mash. Perhaps the chef was short of fish a couple of days after Christmas, but we won?t be going back.
