Good range of beer as you'd expect. We enjoyed the food too, especially the dirty fries

Great place. They gave a fascinating tour, and the bar and shop are lovely.

I think this must be the worst place we have stayed. This pub with rooms also has a campsite and our room was overlooked by one of the caravans. The room had two chairs which look faded but if you brushed against them turned out to be thick dust. Something was buzzing in the night giving a sleepless time, the mattress needed replacing, supposed to be a superior room but nothing superior about it. The tables in the pub were extremely sticky and we overheard the waitress telling other diners they were very behind with the washing up. Breakfast was terrible, extremely small with poor ingredients badly cooked. The landlord was extremely rude, when we found out there was a campsite attached I rang to find out what sort of site it was and he asked what it had to do with me. We had booked in for two nights but left after one.

We had a lovely evening last night with friends and stayed over in the large fab rooms of 5, 6 and 7. Good quality bedding and towels. Fish and chips were great and non greasy. Unfortunately, I had to send my steak back as it was mega cooked and slightly burnt, a replacement was soon brought out and was only slightly better. All the starters were really tasty especially the Terrine. We will all return. Friendly landlord.

We stayed here with some friends both had issues with th electricity it is only 10 amp No kettle Luckily I had a travel kettle which I gave to my friend as she has a bottle fed baby in need of sterilised milk ect The pitches are very steep we tried levelling and move the van but still we felt tipsy inside Shower facilities lovely and clean Site is very well maintained Waste is at the top of the hill hidden so enjoy that The pub is small and cosy We had booked in advance for a table in the restaurant but my error I forgot to ask if dogs were allowed, the staff were exhaustive with the effort to help us remedy this but in the end we popped them in the car as they love it So the food?.. gorgeous The room was spacious and immaculate service as I said before superb So would I return Probably not in the caravan but for a meal yes

We have just spent 2 nights here as a group of 6. Having just read previous reviews I'm surprised, maybe there have been a few staff problems in recent months, but based on our experience I can only give praise. We were bought a buyagift voucher as a gift from friends and they bought some for themselves, so we were 3 couples. It's not easy to find hotels who will accept 3 vouchers in one booking but when I rang, Scott was very accommodating, and when I explained that it was to celebrate a special occasion he pulled out all the stops. There was fizz and balloons in our room on arrival. Our rooms were all very spacious, although 2 only had over the bath showers, not ideal for our age group! Our room had a shower cubicle so we were fine. Towels were nice and big and fluffy, which I always appreciate! The views are amazing, and rooms very clean and welcoming. The beds are huge and very comfortable. And plenty of storage. We ate in the restaurant both nights, there was no problem with our food, but there was a lot of it! I couldn't finish mine on either night, but it was very tasty. Breakfast offered plenty of choice, although I would have liked a bit more fruit. On our second day Scott did bring some grapes when we asked, but really that's a minor point, the cooked breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Scott was brilliant from the start, very friendly and hardworking. All the staff we met were equally friendly. We wandered round Masham which was a lovely little place with a medieval church, several galleries annd a couple of pubs, and we visited Ripon and its cathedral, which was very impressive. We also found the Himalayan Sculpture park which we visited on our way home, only 15 minutes away, and that was lovely. We were fortunate to have good weather for our stay which made a difference. All in all I would highly recommend a stay here, and if Scott is on duty while you're there, you can't go wrong!

Having read previous reviews I was a little apprehensive to what we would find... We arrived early in the day and were warmly welcomed by the (gateshead man) we came back to the pub after our hike the fire was blazing making it feel really homely. We booked for dinner and the meal was faultless as was breakfast the next day. Hubby was pleased to see Semerwater on tap. We had a really enjoyable stay. Keep up the good work ?

Unless you are prepared to accept undercooked or burnt food, not the place to stay. At dinner I ordered a medium/well done steak. Unfortunately it was served rare. I quietly asked for it to be cooked some more but it came back the same. I was offered a different meal and chose gammon. I was unable to cut into it even using a steak knife and when turned over it was black. Waitress agreed it should go back. Next thing the landlord came over, leant across the table aggressively and said ?as I was unable to be satisfied with my food? to ?get our things and leave?. As we had had a drink while waiting we said we couldn?t drive so he agreed we could stay overnight. First thing next morning when we spoke with him he denied his behaviour was aggressive and said he hadn?t asked us to leave, despite waitress being present at conversation. When we also mentioned him being drunk he agreed to refund money we had paid for our stay. Top marks to Tanya, the only saving grace.

Our party had lunch before a tour of the brewery having booked in advance. The welcome was warm and friendly and service was very efficient. A good choice of dishes on the menu although, as with much of Yorkshire, vegetarian and vegan options are quite limited. The food we did have (meet, Vege and vegan) was excellent so no complaints there. Our family are very familiar with Black Sheep brews but are guests weren't so we took advantage of the opportunity to buy thirds of a pint of 3 different ales. This meant that for the price of 2 pints everyone could taste 6 different drinks (and mostly go on to a pint of their favourite!).The brewery tour was slightly disappointing as it was hard to hear the guide who spoke like a dour Yorkshireman. There was lots of information delivered rather quickly with limited enthusiasm until the end when he got into an impassioned speech about pub landlords not serving beers properly.. Quite honestly, despite excellent English, our foreign guests didn't stand a chance and got nothing from it other than what we were able to pass on.I will certainly be going again for food and drink but am unlikely to take another tour anytime soon.

Booked for 9 nights for a work trip as I prefer a pub with rooms to a soulless hotel. Lucked in big time with The Black Swan. The staff are wonderful, so friendly and accommodating. The regulars welcomed us each evening and chatted to us like we were locals. The landlord/owner, Sean is a proper gent. He made sure we had all we needed and took good care of us throughout. The food was good, the company even better and the views are to die for. Thoroughly recommend The Black Swan if you?re in the area.
