I really dislike leaving less than positive reviews but I have a couple of niggles about my visit today. I came for lunch with my mother in law, we selected two main meals from the menu which I ordered at the counter and paid for along with our drinks. On returning to the table my mother in law showed me a leaflet which had been behind the menu advertising two main courses for £15, I had been charged full price. When our meals were delivered I politely queried this and was told you had to ask for the offer at the time of ordering! This is ridiculous, the leaflet wasn?t prominently displayed and nowhere stated this. I feel the person talking my order should have automatically added the discount which is what happens everywhere else. My other complaint is that we were charged £7 to enter a basically empty garden, after I?d paid the lady did say that there wasn?t much to see at this time of year, this might have been helpful had she said it earlier. I doubt I?ll be visiting again although the staff were very pleasant and the food adequate.

Recent visit. Still a lovely clean spacious cafe. Now allowing doggies inside. Prices seem to be rising since last visit last summer. Plenty of free parking. Have a look round the museum nearby ??free entry to see the story of steelmaking on Teesside.

Lovely big, bright and spacious cafe - very clean and tidy. Visited with my husband and 6 month old puppy on 31.12.2023 for lunch - separate seating area for owners and dogs which is within the main cafe and these seats/tables are overlooking the walled gardens. Many different food, drink and cake options at very reasonable prices - the loaded chips were very tasty and a really good portion. Would definitely recommend a visit to this cafe if you are in the area - especially as they are dog friendly too
