Great shop

It really is an excellent shop, with a wide range of goods. It also reminds me of how shops used to be

Goodness me! Me and my mother came here for lunch as we love the shop downstairs - as soon as you come upstairs, it?s a dark and empty carpeted room, then we went and sat by the window next to a bizarre huge cartoon cardboard figure. Anyway! Ordered soup and toasties - my mum asked for vegan cheese which they had, but she wanted literally anything else in the sandwich too as vegan cheese alone is not great, we were told no as ?there?s no time to start cutting onions at this time?? we were one of the two tables in. I asked for fresh juice, definitely from a carton, and the soup was topped with some sort of vegetable crisps which was a bit odd? My sandwiches were stale, on the wrong bread that I asked for, and didn?t reflect the lovely artisan quality of the downstairs shop. I didn?t feel like the staff would be interested in changing these mistakes or have time despite the cafe being silent and empty by that point. Just a disappointing, below-average cafe unfortunately. Maybe look into using fresher ingredients and providing napkins instead of the weird paper towels with stains on them and rips, and a detached glass panel on the table. The younger staff seemed lovely and it has lots of potential??.. :)

I live in the north of Scotland and go down to Northallerton for a reunion once a year in May. On Friday 16th May I bought several chesses fro Lewis & Cooper. One of my favourites is Harrogate Blue from Shepherd's Purse and I bought a large lump. The L&C wrapping showed a best by date of 26 May. When I got home on the Sunday I put the wrapped parcel in the fridge. On Monday I opened it to have some with lunch. It immediately did not smell right. Upon unwrapping the original Shepherd's Purse label had best by date of 3 April. The rind was oozing and over-ripe. I emailed Lewis and Cooper, no response. On Wednesday I emailed again with no response. DREADFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE.

lovely friendly and helpful deli staff. Knowlegable about all the cheeses. Fantastic display and stock of British and European cheeses. One of the best cheese shops in the UK. See you again soon.

Had a look round the shop, some nice things but a bit pricey. Had a pot of tea and a ham and mustard sandwich, the coleslaw was watery but it was tasty. Again the menu quite overpriced for simple lunch choices.

Staff unhelpful and rude, tried to purchase items and a gift box , was told I couldn?t and it needed to be wrapped by staff which would take 30mins to an hour - world gone mad, I?m capable of wrapping my own gifts , the gift box (a paper box £12.99 already - the gift box on sale already wrapped was £80 with about 8 items in !! I?ve used this shop at Christmas for last ten years that will be the last !

Anyone shopping in Northallerton absolutely has to pop in here - I do frequently. Wonderful selection of local food and drinks. A refreshing change from the supermarkets. Sure, they can undercut on price for similar generic products, but if you want local quality...

We recently purchased both a jar of Lewis andCoopers own brand Dijon style mustard and Horseradish sauce from your Northallerton shop. What a disappointment! As the taste bears no relationship to the original flavours why are they so bland? I did notice on the same shelf you also sold Maille which would have a superior purchase for less!

Beautiful produce. Such an assortment of cheeses, you will be stuck for choice. The delicatessen counter at the back of the shop has lovely hams and more cheeses. This counter also serves sandwiches to take away. They absolutely delicious! If you love making cakes they have everything you need for making and decorating cakes. There is so much to look at and wonder at in this shop. It has local produce and a high quality ethic. Upstairs for gifts and a wonderful cafe. It's a real treat to visit. My daughter loves to choose a cake or some beautifully wrapped sweets. They stock kendal mint cake which she's just discovered and Yorkshire parkin to accompany her favourite Yorkshire tea.HIGHLY RECOMMEND A VISIT. A true gem in Northallerton High Street. They have gifted hampers to charity events I have been involved with. A truly generous, amazing independent retailer in Northallerton. They also distribute fantastic seasonal hampers! I can confirm the Easter one was magnificent.Find out more with "Love Northallerton" Facebook page.

It's not how I remember it but still sells all the things I like. Nice deli and good selection of foreign and local cheeses and meats. Wine selection not great but expensive. No German wines that I saw. I lived in a great wine growing region on the Rhine, near the Moselle etc and no one it seems has cottoned onto the fantastic wines you can get in that region. This shop and others just stick to the regular wine places.
