Best Sunday lunch ever. We were a party of 5 and two well behaved dogs and they accommodated us in a little snug area, so it felt like a private dining experience. The staff were so lovely, friendly and very good at their jobs, food was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend.

Stayed for a Summer Stay and Dine Package Fri 08 Aug.
Room: we stayed in The Heifer room. It was charming but quite outdated. Room walls are thin and we could also hear a couple having an argument in a nearby room when walking through the corridor to dinner. Limited sockets, but we always travel with a multi socket so it didn't affect us, but may impact upon others. USB sockets would be appreciated. Tea and coffee area was good. The package included treats in the room. The treats were two little pieces of flapjack which were delicious, but the chocolate topping had melted! Bed was very comfy and firm. Towels were super fluffy and big! View of the busy car park was a little disappointing and we had to keep the bathroom shutters closed due to this. The addition of a makeup mirror would be ideal. We were grateful for the aircon because the room got HOT.
Car park: narrow upon entering and exiting. If you've paid for a stay, you expect to have some guarantee that there'll be parking upon arrival. The car park was full upon our arrival at around 1730.
Food: our second time dining. It was just as exceptional as last time. The lobsters and steaks were cooked to perfection. Please pass on our thanks to your dedicated kitchen and waiting staff. Service couldn't be faulted. The chap behind the bar (with glasses) was attentive and hard-working. We were served in the restaurant by the blonde lady (from Hungary originally) and she was helpful, polite and professional. I hope the 10% service charge added to our final bill is, in part, passed on to her. Heifer champagne is delightful and crisp. We also had some Old Fashioned and Espresso Martini cocktails which were all 10/10. Our dining experience was somewhat marred by the bigot that joined the dining area after us and sat at the back of the restaurant with his wife Sarah/Sara. How do we know her name? He was so obnoxiously loud that we had no choice but to listen. As he became more drunk, he and another diner (who's wife was also Sarah/Sara) began shouting 'send the boats back', mocking foreigners, voicing disgust over immigrants, telling the restaurant that people no longer 'put hard graft in these days' and swearing for no reason at all. The swearing was almost in every sentence as he became more animated. A family on a nearby table (who were not of English heritage and had children with them) looked clearly uncomfortable. It felt like this was largely ignored by staff. The second part of our main and our dessert was ruined by this ill-educated racist. Having the overall experience dampened by a man who wears scruffy jeans and Nike trainers to a restaurant and loudly broadcasts his Facebook-educated political views in a loud North Eastern accent is no fault of The Heifer's, but to have it impact upon so many diners is most unacceptable. I do not wish to hear about his support of Nigel Farage whilst trying to enjoy my break away. I hope the self-declared grafter with the receding hairline (and his nationalist wife (who also had a receding hairline)) are reading this and are able to rethink where they announce their views in future. They were staying 08 and 09 Aug (again, announced to the restaurant) and I hope they were not given the opportunity to ruin anyone else's experience with their vile xenophobic views and cheap fashion during their second night.
Breakfast: fantastic selection. We both enjoyed the granola and yoghurt. Yoghurt would be better served in round pots as it's almost impossible to scoop out from a square Kilner jar! The hot breakfast came out very quickly! So quickly that we had no time to even pour our coffee, let alone finish the yoghurt and granola before it was put in front of us. A small gripe, but if you're serving courses, it'd be nice to finish one before moving onto the next!
Overall: food was incredible. We'll be back for food, but we don't think that the stay is worth the money. Last time, we stayed at a bothy a couple of miles dow

Review of restaurant only. Had Sunday lunch here with a large party. From the moment we arrived the service was immaculate (with the exception of slight hiccough over coffee order, just minor miscommunication between staff). All the food from starters to dessert was delicious, beautifully presented and plentiful. Highly recommended.
NB. Car park is small and busy; parking on the (very narrow) roadside is possible but challenging.

Had Sunday lunch here . The price was a little high and we weren't sure what to expect , after ordering mains and sweet for the five of us . An appetiser arrived which looked and tasted amazing .
This was followed by our main courses or belly of pork and youkshire pudding accompanied by lots of veg .
This was by far the best pub meal I have ever had !
The pork was exquisite as was the veg ?
The desserts were also incredible .
The staff and service were second to none . Polite friendly and helpful. The pub is also dog friendly.
Book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Incredible food !!!

Had lunch here and the food is stunning - I had the chippy option - the fish and chips were fresh, crispy and perfectly cooked, and the bone marrow gravy is sooo tasty - hubbie loved the chicken milanese, which also came with a lovely sauce. The chef has a talent for sauces I think! Would definitely recommend - the staff were lovely too ?

This was our third visit, food still exceptional, but we were put in a side room rather than the main dining room, alone, and felt a bit like lepers, so not the happiest meal. Doubt, we will return.

Excellent food, best fish and chips I've had. Also the most expensive. This is a pretty high end dining experience so don't expect pub prices but I've been here several times and would highly recommend. Really great atmosphere and excellent food.

A Hidden Gem in Wensleydale ? Fantastic Food, Service, and Dog-Friendly Too!
We were pleasantly surprised to find that The Wensleydale Heifer is dog friendly ? a rare and welcome treat in such a high-quality establishment. From the moment we arrived, the service was absolutely outstanding ? easily the best we?ve experienced in a long time. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do.
The food was nothing short of amazing. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. What really stood out was the excellent range of vegan options, which is often an afterthought in many places, but here they were clearly crafted with care and creativity.
Whether you?re a foodie, travelling with a four-legged companion, or just looking for a special spot to relax and enjoy top-notch hospitality in the heart of Wensleydale, this place is a must-visit.

We stayed here for 1 night whilst travelling . The staircase to the rooms is extremely steep . The rooms are comfortable but the walls are paper thin . The person in the next room keep us awake all night with very loud snoring ! When at 4 am we were talking they had the audacity to bang on the wall . I would not stay here again for this reason . Please get some acoustic lining in your property. Regarding the stairs , we were told on booking there were 13 stairs and the building was old . Having just had hip surgery 6 months ago we would definitely not of booked if the accurate angle of the stairs had been described .
