Top notch by any measure. Alec is a fountain of knowledge about everything walking from boots to hats and everything in between. He knows his products and backs them up. It has been too many years since we took a holiday cottage in Bellerby but we still remember Alec?s kindness.

I've been wanting a new pair of walking boots for a while but can find it difficult to find shoes to fit and felt a bit out of my depth. Popped into The Walking Shop whilst in Leyburn for the weekend and had some incredible advice and guidance, proper measuring and testing to find the perfect fit - without any pressure to buy. The Meindl boots were a revelation and were spot on from the very first wear. So much so that my husband also took the plunge and bought a pair! Thank you to The Walking Shop for wonderful customer service and help, highly recommended.

Called into The walking shop to try on some new walking boots. As I have been walking for over ten years I decided to try a different brand of boot. The owner was so helpful and his knowledge in walking boots and explaining to me why I had to go up a size from my original size 8 to a 9 was definitely worth every penny. He measured my feet correctly and as I do a lot of up/down hill walking, tested them on the downhill ramp they are perfect ?. You never get this level of service when purchasing from online, and I?m so glad I called in as I would of stayed in a size 8. He deserves 5* for great customer care and my little freebie ? Many thanks from my happy feet ?

I recently purchased a new pair of Scarpa walking boots from here. There was a problem with them which was sorted very quickly. I asked them to arrange for another pair to have the soles replaced, which were sent off to Italy where they were repaired and sent back. They were lost in transit so Scarpa arranged for a new pair at no cost to me. As I was leaving the shop I said to Alec that if they turned up I would still pay for the repair. Well, they have been found.I now have my boots back. I cannot fault the customer service; it was perfect.

I've been looking for my first proper pair of walking boots for a while. Called into The Walking Shop to have a look. Despite having other customers to help, the owner took the time to find out exactly what would be suitable for me based on my level of experience. He obviously knows his stuff. I came away with a very comfortable pair of boots and the feeling that he was more concerned with helping me find the right thing at the right price rather than just trying to sell to me. Very happy, thanks Alec.

Outstanding service from Alec. He managed to order a waterproof within a couple of days of our enquiry in the size and colour requested. He had excellent product knowledge and spent a good deal of time answering all our questions. He did us a very good deal - will definitely be using this great independent shop again. Alec's covid safety inspired confidence - well done!

Probably the rudest person we have come across since shops have opened up after lockdown. Were keen to buy a jacket but why spend that sort of money with a man who is sarcastic and suggests we might touch his stock. What a shame as the stock seemed very good.
