What a Gem, amazing food, fantastic service, wonderful atmosphere, I can't recommend this place enough. Spur of the moment visit, it happened to be steak night, it was as good as any speciality steak house. Definitely worth a visit

What a cracking little place. We had a selection of tapas which were delicious. The staff were really friendly and always checking back to see if everything was ok. Good prices I understand that there is a limited menu. However, this is to be expected mid January on a Monday who wants to waste good quality food? We didn't have starters or a main course but they looked really plentiful. Definitely will eat here again on our next visit.

We are local and regular customers at Carriages i worked in the service industry and decisions have to be made often quickly and on the spot for the comfort of regular customers we are well blessed as a town with pubs for football supporters Carriages is a Gastro pub/ wine bar we are very lucky to have this as a local eatery so instead of picking fault lets support local hospitality and their decisions which are difficult enough and done in the best interest of the customer.Thank you John and Victoria for keeping the fire burning and a good atmosphere.

I was actually in here on the same evening. I heard no football chants but there was some singing and laughter. No excessive language that you would not get in a bar. If you are not a bar then change your status to restaurant. You can?t have it both ways. Further your response to the review below is extremely rude but from what I saw of the staff I am actually not surprised. The table of ladies in the dining area were just as loud but no one had a problem with any of the noise. People were simply enjoying themselves and not once did I see or hear anyone complain about the noise. When the lads left there were only about 2 people apart from the table of ladies left in the place. Maybe if your standards are so high you should have refused to serve the lads in the first place as we have witnessed you doing in a previous occasion. Double standards!

Saturday before Christmas you expect some frivolous behaviour. A gang of lads came in full of Christmas cheer. They were a tad loud but nothing over the top for what you would expect in a bar. They were asked to keep the noise down on several occasions by the bar staff even though it?s a bar! There was a table of ladies eating who were also loud and while they were not told to keep the noise down, the bar staff were instructed that if they got any louder they should ask them to be quiet. They were the only ones in the dining area. So if you are looking for a bar where fun and laughter are frowned upon, this is your place.

A wonderful experience. The staff are excellent - friendly, chatty and professional. We were made to feel extremely welcome. The food was delicious, especially the beef and stout pie. Filled with the most tender beef in a light pastry case served with superb chunky chips, it?s one of the best pies I have eaten in a long time. The Wednesday night steak deal for two.. sirloins, sides and a bottle of wine is excellent value. The menus are interesting with lots of choices and the pub itself has a wonderful charm.

Was there 5/12 for my 50th. A singer was performing that night and she was amazing. The venue itself was inviting, warm and all the staff were very welcoming and attentive. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning in the near future. We didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food (although service seemed prompt with the food itself smelling delicious).
